In Movie Theaters This Week
The Wesley Snipes vampire hunting sequel "Blade II" features Ron Perlman, who will be playing the Reman Viceroy in the upcoming tenth Star Trek feature film "Star Trek: Nemesis."
The 20th anniversary re-issue of Steven Spielberg's "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" includes, in the small role of "Van Man" actor Michael Durrell. Eleven years after Durrell's appearance in "E.T.," he played General Hazar in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Sanctuary."
Opening in limited release this weekend is "Teddy Bears' Picnic." Billed as a comedy in the same vein as "Spinal Tap" "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show," the Harry Shearer film features a number of Star Trek alums, including Henry Gibson (who played Nilva in the DS9 episode "Profit and Lace"), Michael McKean (the demonic Clown in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "The Thaw"), Kurtwood Smith (Thrax in the DS9 episode "Things Past" and Annorax in Voyager's "Year of Hell") and Brenda Strong (who played Rashella in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "When The Bough Breaks").
On Television This Week
Next Sunday, March 24 is the Hollywood's annual main event, the 74th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by TNG alum Whoopi Goldberg ("Guinan"). The awards will be telecast on ABC beginning at 5:00 P.M., Pacific Standard Time.
