Perhaps what is the biggest live event in the world for
Star Trek fans will hold its 10th anniversary in March as special guests such as Ricardo Montalban and Joan Collins join a vast lineup of
Star Trek celebrities at Creation Entertainment's "Grand Slam" convention in Pasadena, California.
The annual festivity will take place this year the weekend of March 22-24 at the Pasadena Convention Center next to the Pasadena Sheraton hotel. Gold Seating packages are already sold out, but Preferred Daily Seating and General Admission tickets are still available. Full information can be found at the Creation Entertainment site listed below.
More than 10,000 fans from around the world are expected to be in attendance to see over 70 Star Trek actors including William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, Colm Meaney, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Nana Visitor, Roxann Dawson, George Takei, Marc Alaimo, Andrew Robinson, Jeffrey Combs, Casey Biggs and Nichelle Nichols.
Appearing at the Pasadena Grand Slam for the first time will be Enterprise cast members Connor Trinneer, Linda Park, Dominic Keating, John Billingsley, and Anthony Montgomery. They will be joined by Enterprise co-executive producer Brannon Braga.
Highlights of the weekend will include the second Grand Slam appearance in a row by Ricardo Montalban, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the release of "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," where the popular actor reprised his villainous role from "Space Seed." Another famed guest star from the Original Series, the legendary Joan Collins, will make her very first appearance at a Star Trek convention. Collins played Edith Keeler in "The City on the Edge of Forever," considered by many to be one of the best episodes ever.
Along with guest appearances, a variety of special presentations will be held, including the world premiere of an upcoming Star Trek-themed episode of Futurama entitled "Where No Fan Has Gone Before," with the writers and producers of the animated sci-fi comedy in attendance.
Friday night Majel Barrett-Roddenberry and her son Rod Roddenberry will be special guests at "A Special Tribute to Gene Roddenberry," honoring the late visionary who started the whole Star Trek phenomenon. The presentation will take a look at the man and his work through the eyes of his family, close friends and business associates, with rare archival footage from Gene's appearances at Creation conventions over the years.
There will also be a performance by Roxann Dawson and Robert Duncan McNeill of the play "Love Letters" by A.R. Gurney. Plus, the convention will hold a contest for fan-produced music videos which salute Star Trek characters and storylines. Visit the Creation site below for more up-to-date information.
