When Spin City star Charlie Sheen accepted a Golden Globe award on Sunday, he finished his speech by saying, "Oh, and Alan Ruck, this one is for you."
The dedication puzzled some viewers, but it turns out Sheen's co-star on the ABC sitcom is ailing. Ruck who played John Harriman, captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise-B in "Star Trek Generations" has been hospitalized in New York since December 23 while fending off a strep infection that caused kidney failure.
Ruck checked himself into an undisclosed hospital, but "is expected to make a full recovery after a lengthy rehabilitation period," the ABC network said in a statement.
According to news reports, the 45-year-old actor, who plays the mayor's chief of staff Stuart Bondek on Spin City, will rejoin the series once he's feeling up to it, but it's unlikely he'll be back this season.
The Cleveland-born Ruck is perhaps best known as the neurotic best buddy Cameron from 1986's "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." His credits also include "Twister," "Speed" and the TV miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon."
