In Movie Theaters This Week
William Shatner stars in the independently financed "Shoot or Be Shot," which is having its premiere in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, January 23, according to WilliamShatner.com. Shatner and co-star Harry Hamlin will attend the screening at the Westgate Theater and will participate in a Q&A session afterwards. Shatner will then attend another screening of the movie in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday, January 25th. Besides Shatner, "Shoot or Be Shot" also features Julianne Christie, who played the Talaxian "Dexa" in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Homestead." The movie is produced by Ralph Winter, who was also a producer on four Star Trek movies.
"I Am Sam" starring Sean Penn opens in wide release this week, with appearances by several Star Trek alumni. Rosalind Chao ("Keiko O'Brien") plays "Lily" and Brent Spiner ("Data") shows up in a cameo role. The substantial cast also includes Ken Jenkins, "Dr. Paul Stubbs" from "Evolution" (Star Trek: The Next Generation); Michael B. Silver, "Vinod" from "Paradise" (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine); and Russ Fega, "Commander Paxim" in "Basics, Part II" (Star Trek: Voyager).
The martial arts parody "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist" features Jennifer Tung, who played a Female Ensign in "Star Trek: Insurrection."
On Television This Week
John de Lancie ("Q") appears tonight (Tuesday, January 22) on the CBS drama Guardian as a friend of the Dabney Coleman character involved in a dispute over a will.
Stephen Collins (Captain Will Decker in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture") joins center square Whoopi Goldberg ("Guinan") this week on the syndicated game show Hollywood Squares.
