In Movie Theaters This Week
Disney's family comedy "Snow Dogs" features one of Star Trek's original stars, Nichelle Nichols ("Uhura"), playing the part of Cuba Gooding, Jr.'s mother. The film also features original music by John Debney, who composed music for both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Two films with Star Trek alums currently open only in Los Angeles and New York go into wide release this weekend. "The Shipping News" features Robert Joy, who played Inspector Yerid in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Workforce, Part II" and Marc Lawrence, who played Volnoth in the TNG episode "The Vengeance Factor" and also played Mr. Zeemo in the DS9 episode "Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang."
Also getting a national release this weekend is the Ridley Scott-directed military drama "Black Hawk Down" opens nationwide this weekend, with Tom Hardy, who is currently shooting the upcoming "Star Trek: Nemesis" as the title role, Picard's "Nemesis" Shinzon. Also appearing in "Black Hawk Down," is Glenn Morshower, who played Ensign Burke in the TNG episode "Peak Performance," Orton in the TNG episode "Starship Mine," and a Guard in the Voyager episode "Resistance."
