Having spent the past seven years on television as a starship captain shepherding her crew home from the Delta Quadrant on
Star Trek: Voyager,
Kate Mulgrew ("
Kathryn Janeway") is getting back to her theatrical roots in a more down-to-Earth setting all by herself in a one-woman play.
Mulgrew will be portraying stage and silver screen legend Katharine Hepburn in "Tea at Five," written by Matthew Lombardo at Connecticut's Hartford Stage beginning in early February. The play, which runs from February 7th through March 10th, is a world-premiere run at Hartford Stage directed by John Tillinger.
Playwright Lombardo wrote the play specifically with Mulgrew in mind to play Hepburn, a four-time Oscar winning actress who was born in Hartford. In the play, Mulgrew's Hepburn appears at opposite ends of her life and career, with the first act taking place in September 1938 when Hepburn was 31 years old and the second act taking place in 1983, after Hepburn had suffered an automobile accident. Both acts take place at Hepburn's Fenwick estate in Old Saybrook, CT.
In both acts, Hepburn reflects upon her life up to that point, giving insight into her legendary life and experiences.
Tickets for "Tea at Five" range from $22 to $60 and can be ordered by calling the Hartford Stage box office at (860) 527-5151 or by visiting their Web site below.
