The return of the American aircraft carrier U.S.S Enterprise after its service in the military actions overseas was heralded Wednesday night in a special announcement, which preceded this week's episode "Civilization."

Breaking with tradition and having a Starfleet character in costume addressing the camera, Enterprise's Scott Bakula ("Jonathan Archer") spoke directly to the returning servicemen and women with the following:

"We salute the brave men and women serving this country. From the starship Enterprise to the aircraft carrier Enterprise, welcome home."

Bakula wore a baseball cap reading "U.S.S. Enterprise CVN 65," representing the actual U.S.S. Enterprise, as opposed to the NX-01 he captains on the small screen.

After Bakula's announcement came a graphic of the United States flag with the message "WELCOME HOME USS ENTERPRISE."

American military personnel aboard the aircraft carrier had gotten the chance to see Enterprise episodes, as Paramount had been sending episodes to the Indian Ocean, giving the actual Enterprise crew members the opportunity to enjoy the adventures of their ship's fictional future counterpart.
