George Duning, a five-time Oscar® nominated composer/arranger and a composer for Star Trek: The Original Series, passed away last weekend at the age of 92. Duning's career stretched back over six decades, beginning in the 1930's, where his first listed credit is that of composer and arranger for the film "That's Right You're Wrong." He subsequently racked up over 150 composing credits in film and television.

On Star Trek, Duning composed music for the episodes "Metamorphosis," "Return to Tomorrow," "The Empath" and "Is There in Truth No Beauty?" His Oscar® nominations came for his scores for the films "Jolson Sings Again" (1949), "No Sad Songs for Me" (1950), "From Here to Eternity" (1952), "Picnic" (1954) and "The Eddy Duchin Story" (1956).

Duning began his musical career as a musician, playing the trumpet. He worked in radio as the Musical Director/Supervisor of the 1930's hit NBC Lucky Strike radio show "Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge." During World War II Duning conducted and arranged for the Armed Forces Radio Service.
