Showbiz Roundup: Montgomery, Bennett, Shatner and more

Montgomery's New Roles

Want more Anthony Montgomery ("Travis Mayweather")? Well, naturally you'll be able to see him regularly on Enterprise's third season (starting September 10), but the busy actor can also be spotted elsewhere on the tube this fall. Montgomery recently filmed guest appearances on NBC's critically-acclaimed cop drama Boomtown and UPN's successful sitcom Half & Half. The Boomtown episode is entitled "Wannabe" and is tentatively scheduled to air on October 10. An airdate for the Half & Half episode has yet to be announced.

Bennett and Winter Talk "Trek IV"

As part of The Scriptwriters Network's Story to Glory Film Series, "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" will be presented September 23 at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. Writer/producer Harve Bennett and producer Ralph Winter will be on hand to discuss the film. The event starts at 7:30 pm. For more information, check out the websites for the ArcLight and The Scriptwriters Network.

Shatner Takes a Ride

William Shatner ("James T. Kirk") had a busy Labor Day weekend. After hosting the second annual "Spplat Attack" sci-fi scenario paintball game, Shatner was off to Seneca Lake in Watkins Glen, NY for The Legend Ride, a motorcycle trip around the lake that benefited his Hollywood Charity Horse Show. In an email, event organizer Benjamin Thomas noted that the trip went well, despite constant rain. Most of the group traded motorcycles for cars, toured vineyards, had lunch and capped the day with a cruise on restored vintage sailing schooner Malabar X. For more on the event, check out this article from the Ithaca Journal.

McDowell Has a "Stroke of Genius"

Malcolm McDowell ("Tolian Soran") will star opposite Jim Caviezel in "Stroke of Genius," a film about legendary golfer Bobby Jones, according to The Hollywood Reporter. McDowell plays sportswriter O.B. Keeler, who discovered Jones and became one of the golfer's dearest friends. The film is written and directed by Rowdy Herrington.

Takei on Chan

Fox Movie Channel will air four restored Charlie Chan films on September 13, featuring segments with panel discussions on racial insensitivity in film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The panel will be moderated by George Takei ("Hikaru Sulu") and will include actor Harry Shen and Asian American Studies professor Peter Feng. Fox had originally planned to air a Charlie Chan movie festival earlier this summer, but cancelled following protests from civil rights organizations.

"Trekkies 2" Interview

Radio show Sci-Fi Overdrive will air an interview with "Trekkies 2" director Roger Nygard on the Business Talk Radio Network on September 8 at 3 am (ET). For more information, check out Sci-Fi Overdrive's website.

Guest Star Sightings

"The Battle of Shaker Heights" may be known as "the Project Greenlight movie," but it also features several notable Trek alums. William Sadler ("Sloan") plays "Abe Ernswiler," the father of lead character Kelly (played by Shia LaBeouf). Those who have been watching Greenlight this summer will remember Sadler's audition, as well as several of the scenes he shot with LaBeouf. Also featured in supporting roles: Ray Wise ("Arturis" and "Liko") and France Nuyen ("Elaan").
