"World Enough" Gets Votes in TV Guide's Online Video Awards
TV Guide magazine has just announced the winners of its inaugural Online Video Awards and Star Trek has come out a winner. Of sorts. The independently produced Star Trek: New Voyages is the winner in the Best Sci-Fi Webisode category, going up against show-sponsored webisodes from the stables of Battlestar Galactica and The 4400. The New Voyages episode, "World Enough and Time," stars George Takei and was previously mentioned in our coverage (story here) of its Los Angeles premiere.
Westmore Sibling Remembered
Monty Westmore, elder brother to Michael Westmore, passed away on November 13 of natural causes, according to Daily Variety. Westmore was part of the legendary Hollywood Westmore make-up clan and was Oscar-nominated for his work on Steven Spielberg's "Hook." Westmore's 57-year body of work includes "Jurassic Park," "Seven," "The Towering Inferno" and most recently on "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Monty also had two Star Trek credits, on the movies "First Contact" and "Insurrection." Westmore is survived by his wife, four children, five grandchildren and brothers and fellow makeup artists Michael and Marvin.
In a separate story, the Westmores will be immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008. Stay tuned for more details as we get them.
New "Cloverfield" Trailer
The next time you see a movie on the big screen with J.J. Abrams' name attached, it will be for a producer's credit on the Paramount Pictures production of "Cloverfield." The mysteriously titled and very secretively produced "Cloverfield" has had a lot of Internet buzz throughout much of 2007 and now a full-length trailer provides even more excitement and intrigue for the marketing of this film. What we know for sure is that a monster attacks New York City and the story is told from the perspective of a small group of friends attending a leaving party for a guy named Rob. Much of it looks like it's been shot with hand-held video cameras, giving a realistic perspective on how some strange event could be documented in today's world as just about everyone is video enabled.
As for the inspiration for the mysterious title, we're not sure exactly how it ties into the film other than the opening card that reads 'MULTIPLE SIGHTINGS OF CASE DESIGNATE "CLOVERFIELD"...' Maybe it's just a coincidence, but Cloverfield is a boulevard in Santa Monica, California and not that far from J.J.'s Bad Robot production offices. The trailer is amazing, so we suggest you check it out for yourself. (Previously, the teaser trailer appeared with only the "1-18-08" release date and a basic billing card for information, prompting some to speculate that the release date was the actual title.)
You can view the trailer here.
