In 2287, the Admiral ordered the U.S.S. Enterprise-A to Nimbus III to rescue the Federation, Romulan, and Klingon consuls taken hostage there. Even though the new Enterprise was not yet up to spec, Bennett needed the experience of Jim Kirk to handle the situation.

Kirk was on a first-name basis with the admiral, calling him "Bob."
