Production lights illuminate a scene for Enterprise

How long does it take to make an episode of Star Trek?

The creation of an episode consists of three distinct parts: Pre-production lasts one to two weeks prior to filming. During this period, the director and various department heads prepare, discuss budgets, cast actors, design costumes, break down scenes, reserve equipment, background, and stand-ins, as well as scout locations, if needed.

Production involves the principal photography of the episode — on average, seven or eight days.

Finally, post-production can take up to two months to complete. This is when the visual effects, sound effects, music, "insert" shots, dialogue dubbing, and editing processes are completed.
