There are several ways you can receive the site's podcasts. This article explains how to subscribe to get them automatically and how to play them directly from the site.
The first podcasts we produced are audio commentaries, intended to be heard while watching an episode. Previews of the upcoming remastered Star Trek episodes are now available as video podcasts. In the future we hope to produce more of these and other audio and video programming as well.
A recent example is the video preview for the remastered episode "I, Mudd" from the second season of Star Trek. Another example is the commentary for the episode "Twilight" from the third season of Star Trek: Enterprise. Click here for the pop-up window containing the podcast.
Subscribe to our podcast feed
The best way to stay up to date and get our latest podcasts is to subscribe to our podcast feed. That way your podcast application can automatically download our latest offering as soon as it becomes available.
You can go directly to our STARTREK.COM podcasts in the iTunes Store and subscribe there.
You can also use the following address to subscribe to our podcast feed:
www.startrek.com/custom/headlines/podcast.xml
If you're using iTunes, under the Advanced menu, select Subscribe to Podcast... Copy the address above and paste it into the dialog box that comes up.
Listen on your computer
To listen to a podcast commentary on your computer, just click any one of the play buttons. The podcast will play in the pop-up window.
Listen on your media player
If you have a media player (an iPod or other mp3 device, for example), you can download the podcast and place it on the device. In the pop-up window, right-click (Windows) or control-click (Macintosh) one of the download buttons and save the file on your computer. Then follow the instructions for your media player to place the audio file there.
Enhanced podcast
Starting with "Twilight" our commentaries are delivered as "enhanced podcasts" with additional features for iTunes and iPod users. In addition to the audio commentary, these podcasts have a chapter index that allows you to skip to any section of the episode. When you play the commentary, an image appears in the "Now Playing" area of iTunes or on the display of the iPod (color versions) to let you know where you are in the episode. If you stop playing the podcast, a bookmark will help you locate the place where you left off.
We hope you enjoy the commentaries and find this an insightful way to watch an episode! We plan on doing more, so please let us know what you think. Drop us a note at editor@startrek.com.
