Bonnie & John are active board members of the AIDS Service Center

In Part II of our video conversation with John Billingsley at his home in the Hollywood Hills, the "Dr. Phlox" actor talks about his charitable efforts to benefit the AIDS Service Center (ASC) and people whose lives are shattered by HIV.

John and his wife, Bonita (Bonnie) Friedericy — who played Borg victim "Rooney" in the Enterprise episode "Regeneration" — are active board members of the ASC (Bonnie's brother died of AIDS), and for years have participated in the annual "Posada Candlelight AIDS Walk" in Pasadena.

This year that fundraising event takes place on Saturday, December 1 (World AIDS Day), from 4-6 p.m., and you can participate. Visit www.PosadaAIDSWalk.org to sponsor John or Bonnie, or to make a general donation. If you're local, you can still register to walk, and you're more than welcome to join "John and Bonnie's Team" (or form your own team). An "absolutely lovely" experience, John assures!

"These days ... AIDS has morphed in many ways into a disease that is considered 'chronic' and 'manageable' so the urgency doesn't seem to be there," John says about the ASC mission, "even though, for instance, in L.A. there are 65 to 75 thousand people who are infected with HIV/AIDS — about half of whom, maybe a third of whom, don't even know they have it. It's still an extraordinary health crisis, and there are a lot of people out there still passing the disease on."

In May John will also take part in a Celebrity Golf Tournament which will also benefit the ASC — even though he confesses he is not a golfer! (He doesn't even know his handicap!) That fundraiser will also involve Connor Trinneer, Dominic Keating, Garrett Wang and other celebs. You sign up to participate in that tournament at www.Fans-For-Life.org.

In our upcoming third and final segment of this video, John talks about his role in the new season of 24 and about working again with Manny Coto, and he also talks about the Writers Guild strike which has recently shut down production of that show. In addition, John offers his thoughts on where he would like to see Star Trek boldly go, creatively speaking. Provocative and informative — stay tuned!
