Why a prequel?

Not only is it going to be fun to see Star Trek evolve, to see all of the things that the fans are so familiar with come to be, but it's also going to be fun for the non-fan. People who are only glancingly familiar with Star Trek can really start fresh with the francise and watch it from the beginning. But more importantly we felt that making it closer to you and me would let us create characters that were a little more down to Earth.

What are the Characters Going to Experience This Season?

If you or I were placed on a Starship right now we would be trilled to death. But we might be pretty nervous travelling at high warp speeds or we might totally flip out if we went on an alien ship and discovered that the crew was dead and hanging on meathooks. Meeting Klingons for the first time would probably disturb us greatly and you'd probably vomit from the smell. It's these kind of fun, naturalistic human reactions that we want to play while at the same time telling those great Star Trek stories that we've been telling for years. With fresh characters like this its going to put a new spin on everything and thats kind of the essence of the show at the moment.

What Relationships Are You Going To Focus on This Season?

As with any TV show you discover your relationships but one thing we know for sure is that Archer and T'pol, his Vulcan science officer, are a critical relationship because the Human-Vulcan divide is a big part of this show. That tension that exists between humans who see the Vulcans as parents who have been holding them back all this time.

Why Is The Show Called Enterprise?

Because it's about a ship of exploration called Enterprise with Starfleet and uniforms and Klingons and wierd aliens and anomolies. It's Star Trek, at it's core. Maybe even moreso than Voyager or Deep Space Nine in that it's about a ship going out there rather than a ship coming back here or a space station. It goes back to kind of the roots of the original series.

But it is a departure, as I say, in terms of the kind of characters you're going to see and the tone of the show. We're hoping that it will be more accessable and more fun to watch. So it's the best of both worlds we hope.
