Illustrator John Eaves has had a major impact on the look of the Star Trek universe since 1994. He has been responsible for creating many of the props and ships for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the Star Trek: The Next Generation films, including the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-E and Zefram Cochrane's Phoenix. In "Star Trek: Insurrection," John designed the never-before-seen Captain's Yacht.

John has also created a selection of lithographs that are available through the Official Star Trek Fan Club Store. One stunning creation, "To Boldly Go ...", depicts the history of space travel from the Star Trek perspective and mixes the real with the imagined; the Apollo lander, Space Shuttle and other 20th-century craft are joined by the Phoenix and two incarnations of the Enterprise. Other Eaves lithographs include "Encounter at Romulus" and the "NX-01 Enterprise." In 1998, Fans of John's artwork were treated to the Pocket Books publication of "Sketchbook: The Movies," featuring production art that was used in the making of the movies "Generations" and "First Contact."

In February 2001, Eaves was tapped as Senior Illustrator on Enterprise, again working with Production Designer Herman Zimmerman. The show is now in its fourth year of production.

In this interview, John talks about his design work and the production process involved in the making of Star Trek.
