When Seven of Nine first appeared in the season premiere of Season Four of Star Trek: Voyager, the producers and designers were faced with a challenge. They wanted to create a character that would be appealing and sympathetic yet definitely Borg. Of course they had enlisted the formidable talents of Jeri Ryan to play the character but the look had to be exactly right. Their objective was to "create a Borg but not a Borg... a Borg but a very beautiful Borg."

To create the costume they turned to Allan Apone and John Fifer of M.E.L. (Make-up and Effects Laboratories), the company that had been helping the Star Trek team create Borg costumes since they first appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

In this exclusive interview, Allan and John describe the process of creating the unique costume that Seven of Nine wore in "Scorpion Part II."
