Nicole deBoer ("Ezri Dax" - DS9)

Nicole's character "Ezri Dax" joined "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in this, the show's seventh and final season.

Question: hello is there anyway I could send you fanmail I've been asking around but can't find out. Thanks
Josh

Nicole deBoer: You can write me c/o Paramount Studios/Deep Space 9/5555 Melrose Avenue/Los Angeles, CA 90038

Q: Are you enjoying working on a Star Trek Series? How is the Work compared to DWB?
Paul

NDB: Of course I am. It's great. Obviously Star Trek is much bigger than DWB (Deep Water Black), known as Mission: Genesis in the US. I had a lot more power on that show. And here I have none.

Q: Have you been asked to do a DS9 movie?
Marcus

NDB: Yes, just me. The movie will be all about Ezri.

No, actually I haven't. It hasn't been mentioned.

Q: Do you get along better w/ Michael Dorn than Ezri does w/ Worf?
Tenek-Rujat

NDB: I get along with Michael very well. However, I don't get along as well as Ezri gets along with Worf at times... and I don't want to give anything away.

Q: Do you see any kind of a relationship developing between Dax and Dr. Bashir?
Candace

NDB: I would think that it's a possibility and kissing Sid would be fine, too. But I'd be afraid of Nana.

Q: What does it feel like to be now a permanent part of Star Trek History?
Jamie

NDB: Sometimes it hits me when I lie awake in bed at night. Just how big a deal it really is. It's very very cool.

Q: I'm from Holland,your name is dutch,is that right?
Marc

NDB: Yes, that is right. deBoer means 'the farmer' or 'of the land' I believe. And it's quite common a name in Holland.

Q: How do I know this is the real Nicole deBoer???
#1 fan

NDB: You don't. Ha ha!

Q: Whose Idea was it to have a younger DAX on DS9's final Season?
Pasquale

NDB: I believe it was Terry Farrell's.

Q: What was your first reaction, when you realized that you play a figure in STAR TREK and when did you know it ?
Storch

NDB: I'm a figure? I thought I was real! My legs don't bend right!

Q: If you had to be a spokesperson for any organization, which would you choose and why?
Jenn

NDB: That's a good question. Actually, I haven't decided on one yet, but it's something I think about.

Q: In National Lampoon's Senior Trip you played a lesbian, Meg Smith. Did you have any problems playing this role?
ds9trekkie

NDB: No, not at all. Unfortunately, that's all there was to the character. All I knew was I was a lesbian

Q: Do you like Bruce Springsteen?
Springsteen and Star Trek fan

NDB: I'm not a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen, but I respect him very much.

Q: How do you like Star Trek? I think you're a great character. Losing Judzia turned out not to be that bad. It is so much fun getting to know a new character! Keep up the good work!
Grace

NDB: Thank you. I'm having a lot of fun on the show.

Q: How are you getting along with the rest on the cast and are you disappointed that you will only be on the show for its final season?
SILBOR

NDB: I get along with everyone very well. There is a lot of laughter. I think I will miss it when it's over. I don't want to think about it right now, but there'll probably be a few tears.

Q: Dear Nicole, Were you a Star Trek fan before you started playing Ezri Dax on Star Trek DS9?
solo27383

NDB: Yes, I watched the original series. And I loved the Next Generation. But now that I'm on this show... Just kidding.

Q: Are you having fun on the show?
Shelly

NDB: Overall, yes. But the days are very long and a lot of hard work. I usually work five days a week, ranging from 10-16 hours a day.

Q: Was it hard to begin working with people who had been together six years and was it hard to become a character with so many aspect and personalities. Also I believe you did a good job with the new dax.
Kim (Dax of DS9)

NDB: Everyone made me feel very welcome. I've had fun developing the character. It was interesting for me because in the beginning the other actors were just meeting me, Nicole, and the characters on the show were just meeting Ezri. I think that helped me.

Q: Hello, and i would like to say i think you are very beautiful, and you add a certain breath of fresh air to DS9. You're doing a great job in in the dax continuation, and i hope you can countinue to keep the personalities of j-dax, and e-dax seperate.
donnie

NDB: Well, thank you, Donnie.

Q: I just wanted to say that we fans really appreciate your taking the time to chat with us. Isn't the Computer Age great??? :)
Jean Claude

NDB: And I enjoy saying 'hi' to my fans. I think that's very important. The computer age rules!

Q: Will you marry me?
Seth

NDB: Welllll..... I don't think I should. But thank you.

Q: Do you know why they have been showing the first few episodes again only after showing maybe 10 season seven episodes?
Castro(El President)

NDB: I believe it's because of Sweeps Week and the holidays.

Q: Are you Left handed or is that just part of the charecter?
Adam

NDB: Yeah, I'm left-handed.

Q: Has William Shatner being a Canadian helped in allowing Canadians access to Star Trek?
Terry

NDB: I don't think so, but you never know. Actually, I have met Mr. Shatner. I auditioned for him for Tek War. I did not get the part.

Q: What is your quest!?
d3nt

NDB: To seek the Holy Grail, of course.

Q: Will we see Ezri explore her Klingon past, and if not, will we learn more about Trill culture though your character's journey?
Dawut

NDB: I doubt we'll explore her Klingon past, as that was something that Jadzia did. There will be more, however, on Trill culture.

Q: What kind of music do you most enjoy to listen to?
Mendak

NDB: I'm definitely an 'alternative' music girl. I used to be a punk rocker, but I didn't get much work with the hair.

Q: How do you find the uniforms?
Too Tight?

NDB: Freshly pressed on a hanger with my name on it.

Q: I love your performance in "A Prodigal Daughter" do you hope to see Ezri do more of such episodes?
Dennis

NDB: Thank you. I do, and they're coming up.

Q: What...is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?!
Ryan M.

NDB: African or European?

Q: Do you drink coffee? If so, how do you take it (cream vs milk, sugar vs sweetner)?
Al

NDB: Just with milk.

Q: You seem to have a wicked sense of humour. Does it ever get you into trouble? You probably do your share of disrupting serious moments.
Natalie

NDB: Do you know me Natalie?

Q: Who is your favorite Star Trek actor?
Peixe

NDB: Patrick Stewart. He's sexy.

Q: What does it feel like when they draw spots on your head? Why do you keep changing your hair?
Raptor1225

NDB: It tickles, actually. Michael Westmore personally does my spots every day. He paints them on free-hand and numbers them and signs the bottom of my neck.

Q: Hi! I visited a message board where you (?) posted a nice message for your fans. Would you care to confirm that? (or do you want to keep us guessing???;-))
Jean Claude

NDB: Yes.

Q: Does your character have an office on DS-9 yet ?
B.C.

NDB: If she does, I haven't seen it.

Q: You have a great sense of humour, judging by this celeb chat! Are you doing any conventions?
LemurNAndy

NDB: So far, I know of one in Manchester in May and possibly one in Australia in May, also.

Q: Is there an EZRI action figure coming out anytime?
Canadian

NDB: I hope so!

Q: Did Terry Farrell help you develop the character of Dax before your first apperance?
Paul G

NDB: She wouldn't answer my phone calls. Actually, I've only met her once on her way to this chat.

Q: What do you do with your free time in LA?
Dennis

NDB: Get lost. Sit in traffic.

I go to the beach.

Q: What is it like for a Canadian to act on Star Trek?
Joshua

NDB: The language barrier is the worst part.

Q: Have you been to Star Trek the Experience?
Dion

NDB: No, darn it! I went to the premiere of Star Trek: Insurrection in Vegas but I didn't have time to try the ride.

Q: If you could be any other race other than Trill what would you be?
Rion

NDB: I don't know if they're very cool, but I'd like to be a Vulcan. It's a classic.

Q: Will Ezri ever command the Defiant?
Vanessa

NDB: Keep watching.

Q: Can I have your autograph? :)
Sky

NDB: Sure. Write to me and I'll send you one.

Q: Have you always have your hair so short? I'm considering having mine short like yours, but I've had long hair for a while now. Is it hard to care for?
anamarylee

NDB: I have had it long but I prefer it short. Go for it. It's so much easier.

Q: Do you like monkeys?????
Quark

NDB: Yes and no. I've been bitten twice. Once when I was two and once when I was 18. We have monkeys all over in Canada.

Q: How fast do you type?
Pigater

NDB: As fast as Jackie does.

Q: Do you get stoped on the streets a lot? Do people recognize you already as Ezri?
anamarylee

NDB: I do get recognized and so far people have been very nice.

Q: How have the fans as a whole reacted to you joining the cast?
James

NDB: Overall, the response has been positive. Some people miss Jadzia more than others.

Q: How is acting in Canada different from acting here in the States?
Dennis

NDB: Besides the monkeys? It's not that different, really. Most of the things I work on, I've worked on in Canada for American productions. Of course it's my native tongue.

Q: how did you get picked for your dax role?
ace

NDB: I auditioned, they liked me (yeah!) and I got the part.

Q: Do you have to do many promotional things like this?
tom

NDB: I do enough that it's enjoyable.

Q: Why do you need someone to type for you?
Julian

NDB: They won't let me type.

Q: Nicole, you've said before that you used to be very shy as a child before you started acting.. I was wondering why you think acting helped you overcome your shyness, and if you ever struggle with it now?
Scott

NDB: Yes I was a very shy child. My family was shocked when I got the part of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz in grade 4. Acting was an opportunity to be someone else, so when I'm not acting, I can still be shy. Or not.

Q: Do you rehearse or spend time at any of the other actors' homes? Are you close to any of them?
QuarksLdy

NDB: We rehearse on the set. Maybe if we had more prep time we would do things like rehearse at each others' houses.

Q: I hear it takes about 4 hours to put your style of makeup on. How do you pass the time while this is being done?
Scott

NDB: I'm lucky. My make-up only takes an hour. I usually talk to the make-up girls and Michael Westmore.

Q: If you were not acting, what do you think you would be doing as a career?
Duane

NDB: I wanted to be a lawyer. But I've been acting since I was a kid.

Q: Parlez-vous francais, mademoiselle?
Jean Claude

NDB: Oui, un peu.

Q: Did they restart the numbering on your neck from Terry's? Um, I mean like when you gott your first spots was the number 1?
Mirrani

NDB: Yes, that's right. I got my own spots.

Q: Yeah, you could be T'hee, the world's first wisecracking Vulcan! ;-)
Jean Claude

NDB: That's cute.

Q: How do you like the folks in Hollywood?
Dennis

NDB: There's definitely a lot of interesting characters. Actually, I find people to be very nice.

Q: Ever thought about goin' for the next Star Wars movie in a few years?I mean you're doin' Star Trek, why not Star Wars?
Todd

NDB: I would love to, I love Ewan MacGregor.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being on DS9?
Levi

NDB: The money.

Q: So, do you watch yourself on tv?
nikkirules

NDB: Sometimes. But I have to be alone. I can't watch myself when my friends or family are around.

Q: What is your average work day like? What time do you get up, get to work, get make up on, work on your lines, shooting, eating, etc?
anamarylee

NDB: I get up at 5:30 AM. I have a shower... I throw on some sweats... And get in my car. By this point, I'm already running late. But I stop at Starbucks anyway. I get a Grande percent Latte and go to work. I get my spots from Mr. Westmore.... Maybe have a bagel... and then we rehearse the first scene of the day. And then I get my wardrobe on. We work for six hours and then we have a one hour lunch break. The food's not very good. I talk to my manager... Maybe talk to my mom.... And then I'm back to work... If we work long enough we get a dinner break.

Q: Who exactly did you play in Canada's Kids in the Hall?

AK Germany

NDB: Paris.

Q: you're too cute, does that ever get in the way of developing a serious aspect of your character?
TORONTO GUY

NDB: Thank you. I don't think it's been a problem.

Q: Is it true that Captain Sisko might be leaving after this season?
:)

NDB: Yes, that's what I heard too.

Q: Do you enjoy playing Ezri and do you think that your personalities are similar.
CapArthron

NDB: There are aspects to our personalities that are similar.

Q: If you had a chance to really have Ezri Dax's life, would you take it?
Kate

NDB: For a week, maybe.

Q: I love your name. What is your middle name. Mine is Lynn.
Nichole

NDB: I don't have one. My mother couldn't think of one that she liked between the two names.

Q: have u ever been on speaker's corner?

Duane

NDB: I'd like to do film or a really good TV series.

Q: Do you ever find it difficult to act around special effects that will not be created until post production. If so, do you have any funny stories about any particular instances?
D.

NDB: Yes. It's one of my pet peeves, actually. I've had experiences where I've been told the effect was going to be huge and I ended up looking like a very bad over-actor.

Q: What type of storyline would you like to see your character in and do you have any input in the course of discussions?
James

NDB: I want to see Ezri kick some Cardassian butt.

Q: did you have to move to LA when you got the part or did you already have an apartment there?
adam

NDB: I had to move and start from scratch.

Q: Are you happy that, 20 years from now, Star Trek and science fiction fans will still identify you as Ezri Dax?
Rod

NDB: Yes, it's pretty amazing to be part of something as big as this. Very cool.

Q: Where are you from in Canada?

Nicole, thank you very much for joining us here tonight.

NDB: Thanks for your questions, everyone. I've enjoyed our chat. Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye!
