Star Trek Host: Marina is on the phone with us from Toronto! So let's jump right in with the questions.
Q: What was it like working with the TNG crew again?
lt_scotty
Marina Sirtis: Well, you know, it's always a party when we get together. Stuart Baird was complaining that he felt like a counselor in a kindergarten group. He realized pretty soon after that it didn't prevent us from getting the work done.
Q: Which Troi outfit did/do you like the best?
annikotay1
MS: I always preferred my regulation space suit, although I know it wasn't the fans' favorite.
Q: Are you happy now that Riker and Troi have finally tied the knot?
designationlocutus
MS: Yes, I am. But I really feel the wedding was more for the fans than it was for me and Jonathan. And it was a really nice way to start the movie, to have a wedding.
Q: Greetings from Ireland, Marina. My question is this: What do you think of the "Nemesis" script being leaked before the movie is out?
quebec
MS: I think it sucks. You know, I don't even understand why people want to know ahead of time what's going to happen in the movie. It takes the joy out of seeing the film, to know what's going to happen next. I find it a little despicable, actually, that someone posted the script.
Q: Ms. Sirtis, what was it like working with new-to-Star Trek director Stuart Baird for this film?
reis000
MS: He was new to Star Trek, he had directed two other movies before. But it was challenging, because he really had no knowledge of Star Trek at all. He wanted to approach it like it was the first Star Trek movie. Consequently, certain things that I would have done naturally as Troi, he questioned, and possibly made it a better movie at the end of the day.
Q: Hi Marina, I noticed that you did the voice for "Demona" on Gargoyles. What was the experience like working on such a popular cartoon? And what was it like to play an evil person? Was it a stretch? You were really good.
micheland73
MS: Well, it wasn't a popular cartoon when it started, it was a new cartoon that became popular. Actually it wasn't a cartoon, it was an animated series. There was no duck or mice. And it was great playing someone evil, although they did tell me that after I auditioned (I was the first one to audition for the part), that they didn't bother to audition anyone else. I'm going to take that as a compliment.
Q: Marina, I think you are absolutely gorgeous! ;-) Now that that's out of the way ... Can you tell me what's upcoming for you? I'd love to see ya onstage sometime!
troiboi
MS: I have a movie coming out next year called "Net Games," and after that it's in the lap of the Gods. I have no plans to appear onstage at this time.
Q: Greetings! How did you feel when you were first selected to be Counselor Troi?
startrekperson
MS: You mean after they scraped me off the ceiling?
Q: Where do you rate "Nemesis" out of the Next Generation big screen outings?
dharm08
MS: I rate it right up there with "First Contact," if not a little better, because of its emotional content.
Q: Is this really the last movie with you and the Next Generation cast in it?
captainredbay
MS: That's entirely up to the fans. The vibe when we were shooting was that it was going to be the last movie, but now that it's turned out so well, I think it's going to depend on how much money it makes. So get out there and see it!
Q: Marina, you were great on Stargate SG-1. Was it easier for you to pick up a Russian accent than a Betazoid accent?
ulkesh
MS: Russian was harder, because I had to be accurate. Betazoid I made up and as I was the first Betazoid we'd ever met, who was going to tell me I was doing it wrong?
Q: Have you ever flown with Michael Dorn?
thx007
MS: Yes, I have, now that he has a plane with [jet] engines and not propellers, I fly with him all the time.
Q: I've read that you're English, however your accent has always sounded a little different. Did you change the way you speak for the character in TNG?
yessong
MS: Yes, they didn't want two Brits on the bridge. Although in the first scene of "Nemesis," Troi is English for a while! But then we get back to normal.
Q: Since leaving the show and, apart from your big screen outings, do you keep tabs on things going on in the Star Trek franchise, for example, Enterprise?
dharm08
MS: I really don't watch them on a regular basis, but I do make a point of watching occasionally, just to keep up.
Q: Was it fun filming the wedding reception scenes?
davidn
MS: It was the first scene that we shot, so it was our excuse to have a party for two days.
Q: What is your life outside of working in Star Trek like?
captain_kang__of_the_uss_armageddon
MS: Very normal. I don't have an assistant, so I do all those mundane things myself, like go to the market, dry cleaners, etc. and I love to cook, so I make dinner every night.
Q: Marina, my daughter has never cut her hair, it's very long. She wants her hair fixed to look like yours from the earlier seasons. As the mom who has to fix it, how long did it take to do?
trstark
MS: Gosh, I hate to tell you this, but it was a wig. So they could do my hair when I wasn't in it. So I have no idea.
Q: Marina, What was your ONE favorite memory of ALL times when filming TNG?
angel
MS: I have so many good memories. There are two vivid memories of me laughing so much that I literally was rolling around on the ground.
Q: Hello from Illinois, Ms. Sirtis. Is Jonathan Frakes as big as they make him look on TV and in the movies?
pigdawg1503
MS: TV adds ten pounds to everybody.
Q: Hey Marina! I read from a previous transcript that your favorite football (soccer) team is Tottenham Hotspur, well perhaps when Liverpool come down to London to play against them, perhaps you and I could go to the game and see Liverpool whip the Spurs :P Anyways, care to take me up on that offer?
uss_bellerophon
MS: (laughing) That would be a little hard as I live in Los Angeles now.
Q: Do you speak any other languages, Ms. Sirtis?
chadeb
MS: I speak Greek fluently. And French just okay.
Q: Hello Marina! When you go out in public do people call you by your Star Trek name?
maverick101
MS: They do until I strike them. And then they remember not to do it again.
Q: Ms. Sirtis, how did it feel to walk on the bridge of the Enterprise for the first time in four years?
g30ffg
MS: It just seems to me that after we've been gone for a while and we come back, Patrick's throne is a little higher.
Q: Are you planning to do any more conventions?
sab1701
MS: Oh yeah, I will always do conventions, as long as I'm asked.
Q: After filming each movie, does all of the cast keep in touch?
spookiebear
MS: Oh yes, we're very good friends. I speak to Michael Dorn every day and see the others at least two or three times a month.
Q: Ms. Sirtis, I also think you're absolutely gorgeous! :) Do you enjoy reading in your spare time, and if so, do you have a favorite author? Thank you for your time with us today :)
threepio11
MS: I love to read, and one of my favorite authors is Alice Hoffman.
Q: Ms. Sirtis, how come you are in Toronto? Are you filming a movie??
who_cares
MS: It's on my press tour for "Nemesis."
Q: Ms. Sirtis, it's great to have you with us. Before you were hired on ST:TNG, were you looking for work in science fiction in particular? Are you a sci-fi fan?
laureletsage
MS: No, I wasn't. I was just looking for a job.
Q: Do you have any pets?
silver_the_hedgehog
MS: I have two dogs and four cats. And my husband (laughs)
Q: I know that while the series was running, you and the cast had to move around when an explosion or something happened. What was it like to work on a bridge that did the moving for you?
warraw
MS: It made it much easier. The director didn't have to shout, "To your right, to your left, etc." The bridge did it for us, we just had to exaggerate the movements.
Q: Of all the cast, who has the most warped sense of humor?
davemcclain
MS: Hmmm, I would say Brent.
Q: Ms. Sirtis, how does it feel to be apart of something so big that it may effect our future someday???
chadeb
MS: I can't really think of Star Trek in those terms. Otherwise, being involved in it would just be too mind-blowing.
Q: Do you have any plans to direct?
qlotti
MS: No plans at all.
Q: Will you be joining us in the UK for the UK premiere?
jean_luc_picard_ps
MS: I will be there.
Q: Ms. Sirtis, with the holidays upon us, do you have any special plans?
buck_williams
MS: I get back to LA on the 22nd of December. So I'm just going to make Christmas dinner and veg.
Q: What is the strangest thing that has happened to you as a result of your Star Trek experience?
ensignsunburn
MS: Nothing strange has ever happened.
Q: What are some of your favorite TV shows?
plain_simple_garak
MS: My favorite shows are Everybody Loves Raymond and Law & Order, in all its incarnations.
Q: What was it like kissing Tom Hardy? I think he's got GREAT lips. How would you rate his lips?
roseanna
MS: I rate his lips as a 10 out of 10!
Q: Marina, I am hearing that this will be the generation's final journey. I think I may require extensive psychological counseling. Shall I make an appointment with you now?
ronnie1of1
MS: I don't think you could afford me. (laughs)
Q: I understand that you first tried out for the part of Tasha Yar, and she tried out for your part, then you were switched. Can you tell us how that made you feel? Were you upset you didn't get the part you intended to get?
captain_kang__of_the_uss_armageddon
MS: I wasn't upset at all, I was just happy to get the job.
Q: Marina, how do you like "Nemesis?" Are you satisfied with the way the movie turned out?
ronnie1of1
MS: I think it turned out much better than I had ever anticipated.
Q: I read somewhere that Peter David stole one of your jokes for his "Imzadi" book. What joke was that? :)
villikisu
MS: I used to say at conventions that Troi didn't like Worf because in the episode "The Child," she sensed that he wanted to eat her baby. Peter David stole that.
Q: You can tell I'm a big Gargoyles fan. Was it feeling like a Star Trek moment when you worked with Jonathan Frakes and Michael Dorn as well as other Star Trek alumni on the series?
micheland73
MS: There were a lot of times when it was like a Star Trek reunion in the studio. Our sense of fun spread to all the other actors.
Q: I'm intrigued as to whether Marina Sirtis is as much of a chocoholic in real life as Deanna Troi...!!
deannaesqu_star
MS: Yes, I am. But I really only like dark chocolate.
Star Trek Host: Please thank Marina for joining us today!
MS: I just want to wish all my fans very happy holidays and a safe and prosperous new year!
Bye Marina Sirtis, best wishes to you and Riker ;)
captain_kang__of_the_uss_armageddon:
