Denise Crosby ("Yar" - TNG)

Q: Are you going to be near Madison Wisconsin, any time soon? I can't go far but I would love to meet you!
Andy Hying

Denise Crosby: I think I will be in Wichita, Kansas around Jan 5. Little Rock, Arkansas around the same time.

Q: What are you working on now?
Milton

DC: I begin shooting a new series next week called "Cloak and Dagger." It's a cross between "Mission: Impossible" and "Lewis and Clark." I play the head of the large terrorist organization. I have been shooting a documentary about Star Trek fans since August. I recently finished a movie called Executive Power, with Craig Scheffer and Joanna Cassidy...

Q: Do you think you will be appearing in any DS9 of Voyager episodes?
Megan

DC: I'm trying to appear in Star Trek: Deep Space 9. I recently talked with the head writers. They know I'm interested and I have been sent a script but nothing has been confirmed for Sela to return.

Q: How would you evaluate the impact of being part of the Star Trek family on your career and on your personal life? And a thousand thanks for your great performance at the end of "Skin of Evil." Still gets right through my heart even after 9 years.
Phil

DC: That's very touching. Thank you for that...

I think that it has been an extraordinary ride. I had no idea how popular this whole show was before I started. I am continually amazed at the effect Tasha Yar has had. I'm grateful for the experience. Personally it has allowed me to have other creative outlets: this documentary, the role of Sela and travel all over the world and meet fans who are into it.

Q: You are one of the most recurrent stars on Star Trek NG, which character did you like most?
The Brew

DC: Those guys from planet Edo. The eternally youthful, spunky, aerobicized, partially- clothed "Edoites." -- Looked pretty tasty.

Q: Did you like the character of Tasha Yar when the show first started?
Megan

DC: I loved the role of Tasha Yar.

I think Tasha holds the closest to my heart but Sela has quite a bit left to do. She is a very complex, provocative character. I hope we can still work with her.

Tasha was this fragile child underneath this protective coat of fierceness and strength. She came from such a horrible background and overcame all of that and rose above it to become the best in her field.

Q: Why did they kill off your character?
Megan

DC: I wanted to leave the show. Although it was Gene's idea to have the character die. He thought it would be so shocking. I wanted to leave as I was struggling with not being able to do much with the character. I had all these ideas and couldn't do them. I was just stage dressing. I chose to leave instead of just being satisfied with that.

Q: Denise, I really missed you when you left as a regular on The Next Generation. Do you ever regret your decision to leave the show? (PS Will you marry me?????)
TomK

DC: I never regretted my decision. It's ironic my favorite episode was "Yesterday's Enterprise." I had to die and leave the show in order to do. There is some irony in that. And as far a marriage, I'm currently happily married but my mother is available.

Q: Did it feel weird returning for the final episode of the series and playing Yar as she appeared in the first season?
Mark

DC: It was very difficult to do. I underestimated it. This was a character I played and one I felt I already knew. But time has that effect on you and you are a different person coming back to that character.

Q: But be honest, you loved playing the wicked Sela, didn't you?
JoeS

DC: You got it baby!

Q: Did you have any skills in fighting before this role?
Leah

DC: I had not studied any martial arts. Although while playing her I trained in Aikido and am currently taking Tai Chi.

Q: Do you like chatting on the Internet?
Megan

DC: Yes. I don't have much experience with it. This is my first chat. I like it. Its cool. The future is here.

Q: What was the main reason you decided to become an actress and what advice would you give to a aspiring actress?
Morgan

DC: I don't think you choose to be an actor it chooses you. And it was always a part of my character, my hobbies, what I was drawn to in life. I graduated towards it without any real conscious choice. To any one starting out it takes years to become a great actor. In that time you should read all the plays you can get your hands on, see movies, play, work in small theater just to get on stage. Open your eyes and ears and watch people.

Q: What do you think when you enter a toy store and find a little action hero of yourself?
Mike

DC: Who would have thunk it? I am amazed. Its an array of emotions. I am thrilled by it, embarrassed by it. To have an action figure, a comic book and a lunch pail you can't compare. Oscar has nothing on that.

Q: Do you still remain in contact with others from the TNG crew?
Ravi

DC: Some, but lately I have been more in contact because of the documentary I'm making and talking with the actors to get interviews with them. Everyone is off in their own worlds. That's what happens when a show ends. You go your separate ways.

Q: What is the episode in which you had the most creative input for in TNG?
Ravi

DC: In the beginning all of us read our scripts together in a lunch meeting and our suggestions were well received. The writers and directors were open to them. Often times the actor knows more about their character than anyone else. We were shaping these people in the first year so anything was up for grabs.

Q: Do you think Tasha's death was sorta cheesy?
Miki

DC: I wouldn't say cheesy, but some how anti-climatic. I would have preferred a bloody gory battle since that is who she was. Since it was the chief of security and her expertise was fighting. I think the fans felt unfulfilled. I understand the reasoning was to be shocking - an unprovoked death.

Q: Do you still have your uniform or any props?
Miki

DC: The first thing I remember the producer doing was ripping my communicator exists. Somewhere that exists but I don't have it. One of the producers has it.
