Michael plays "Worf" on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." He originated this character on "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
Question: This seems to be a continual 'torture' for Worf to be both outcast and the heart-broke-often man of both series. Will he EVER be totally accepted 100% in either case? Keep up the great work on the best Klingon in HISTORY!
RMSTitanic
Michael Dorn: Hopefully, he will not be accepted 100% because I like playing that type of character. The kind of fish out of water character.
Q: Could you and Ezri Dax possibly get together please???
Joseph
MD: I don't think it's going to happen because it is the last year of DS9 and they have a lot of loose ends to tie up before the end of the season and that does not lend itself to starting up an Ezri/Worf romance.
Q: What is the best part about playing the role of a Klingon?
Brook
MD: Being in make-up and not having your real face shown because you can become any character you want to... you can take the character to its limits without being restricted by your looks.
Q: After you finish your work on DS9, are there any plans for another Star Trek series in which you will be working in?
Marcelo
MD: I can tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
Q: What series did you like working on best TNG or DS9, I think you're the best in DS9
Dax_Curzon
MD: It's difficult to say which is the best because it's apples and oranges. TNG was the last show that Gene Roddenberry actually had a major hand in and it was the first incarnation of the spin-offs, so it was special in that way and I also believe the cast bonded in a way that was very rare and still bonded to this day., Whereas DS9, although it's fun working on and I enjoy the characters and have made some very close friends, it's a different feel so I'd have to say I enjoyed working on TNG.
But don't tell anybody. Keep it a secret.
Q: I would like to know why does Worf appear in both Star Trek movies when he is busy on another story line in Deep Space Nine. And it is not even mentionned in any T.V show episodes about your Enterprise mission.
Benoit
MD: The producers say it's okay.
Q: I know that you enjoy flying various kinds of aircraft. How long have you been doing that as a hobby, and what are some of your favorites?
Aaron
MD: I've been flying for ten years and my favorite is a Canadian F86 Saberjet.
Q: As you've now appeared on TNG and DS9, will you also be appearing on a future episode of Voyager?
Darren
MD: I hope to be appearing on Voyager, but not as Worf. Hopefully out of make-up.
Q: Why is it a Star Trek series (the original series not included) always ends in the seventh season? Just when something even more interesting stuff happens, the plug is pulled. Are you going to be in Star Trek: Insurrection as well?
NJRosal
MD: To answer your first question, that is a Paramount executive decision. I've always believed that TNG could have lasted 10 years because at the end of the 7th season, we'd just reached out peak and were getting stronger and more popular, but those decisions are Paramount executive and studio decisions.
Q: Were you disappointed when you heard Terry Farrell was leaving?
The Trekkie Iceman
MD: Yes I was. Dax was a terrific character to play off of. Terry is also a good friend and we had some terrific times, but I totally support her decision to move on which was a brave decision to leave a show in the last season. But I think she is very happy and I wish her all the best.
Q: Besides yourself, are there going to be any other DS9 members in the upcoming movie?
RichC
MD: I can't answer that. I've been sworn to secrecy.
Q: HOW DOES WORF END UP WITH THE ENTERPRISE CREW E IN THE NEXT MOVIE WHEN HE IS SUPPOSEDLY ON DEEP SPACE NINE?
DEE
MD: We're in space, for Christ's sake! We can do whatever we want to.
Q: A question about your extraordinary voice and your mastering of it: have you ever at any point in your life considered pursuing an extra career as an opera singer? Or has anyone ever suggested it to you?
Gaby
MD: No.
Q: Mr. Dorn, I noticed that on the excellent Animated series; "Gargoyles" Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis and yourself voiced important characters. How and Why was this so?
Desi
MD: The producers were big fans of the show.
Q: Mr. Dorn, How can I (and the fans) get an authentic autograph photo of yourself? Do you have a fan-mail address we can send requests to? You see here in Canada (Toronto) we hardly ever get Star Trek conventions with visiting guests.
Desi
MD: All mail should be sent care of Paramount Studios. I receive everything and answer all the mail. 5555 Melrose Blvd., Hollywood,, CA 90038. It usually takes 4-6 months.
Q: Would you please tell us about some of the behind the scenes camraderie and togetherness between cast members in the Star Trek shows you've been on?
HGC
MD: The Next Generation had probably the wildest bunch of actors I've ever worked with. We did good work, we knew our lines but we acted shamefully most of the time.
Q: Mr. Dorn, I have really enjoyed your work on ST:TNG and DS9. Worf is my favorite character. Will there be any movies focusing on Worf and his family history, or getting the house of Mogh back into honor within the Klingon High Council?
Marlon
MD: There isn't any plan to do it on DS9, but hopefully the next movie that we do will focus a little more on the Klingons and Worf's battle with the High Council.
That has always been some of the fans' most favorite episodes... the Klingon episodes... and I think it would do well for them to consider working that into the next movie.
Q: Were you ever in "CHiPs"? If so, did they ask you if you wanted be in the reunion?
Eddie
MD: Yes, I was in CHiPS from 1979 to 1981 and they 'said' they couldn't get in touch with me for the reunion, but the whole world knows I'm at Paramount... So you draw your own conclusions.
Q: How does it feel to Direct a DS9 episode and will you be moving on to Directing other projects?
Life
MD: I loved directing and hopefully I'll get a chance to do more this year and maybe move over to something that's not in space. It's really difficult to make the transition but I do love it.
Q: How long does it take to do your makeup? Is it uncomfortable?
Eddie
MD: One hour and it's extremely uncomfortable. It's about two hours for the movie.
Q: How has your life changed since being casted as Worf? I think you are the best developed character in the Star Trek universe!
Eddie
MD: I have more stuff.
Q: What are you going to dress up as in Halloween?
Eddie
MD: Since I dress up in costume all year long, I'm going to go as Clark Kent.
Q: Did you ever visit the Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas? I thought it was pretty good.
Eddie
MD: Yes I did, and I agree, it was a terrific ride. And it was really strange walking on the bridge because it was exact replica of the bridge we were on for seven years and we hadn't seen that bridge in four years, so it was a bit nostalgic. I wanted to tell people to get the hell away from my station because they didn't know what they were doing. "I'll show you how to fire torpedos!"
Q: Hello Michael, did you get the chance to meet Professor Stephen Hawking when he appeared on the show?
Damien
MD: Hi. Yes, I did and it was unusual to see a crowd of people standing in a circle around him in awe of this guy and it was almost like his intelligence... his aura... was emanating.
Q: I love the episode you guys did without any makeup. What a great idea! And the story was superb. Are there any plans to continue with this theme?
Cindi
MD: I don't think it's going to happen again. Not before the end of the year.
Q: Worf your character have a really low voice. Do you have this low voice too or it just for the series?
Roy
MD: It just for the series.
Q: I know this isn't a Star Trek question, but what did you think of CHiPs 99? I remember 'J. Turner'.
Nancy
MD: I actually did not see CHiPS '99. But it was good to see the actors again in the promos that I saw, because we all had a good time and were pretty good friends.
Q: Did you watch Star Trek as a child?
Kathie
MD: Yes I did. My brother and I thought it was the coolest thing that ever hit television in the 60's. Our favorite character was Scotty.
Q: Hi Michael, first I'd like to say that I think you're one of THE sexiest Klingons I know! My question is - do you think it would have been an interesting challenge for Worf if the new Dax was cast male?
Kathryn
MD: It would have been an interesting challenge for Worf, yes, but an even more interesting challenge for Michael Dorn.
Q: Hey there Mr. Dorn - when will they be done filming episodes for DS9 and is there any way to get a part in one still?
SibaNate
MD: The last episode is filmed in mid-April and it's fairly difficult to get a part in the show at this point.
But call Voyager.
Q: Michael (Worf): Do you speak "fluent" klingon? :)
Catie
MD: No.
Q: Do You Believe the new Star Trek movie is as good as First Contact and Generations???
Dan
MD: Not having seen the next movie, I don't know, but I think First Contact was probably the best out of all the Star Trek movies, and I am a big Star Trek movie fan so I know of which I speak.
Q: Do you like working and acting with Patrick Stewart?
Jon
MD: I would enjoy working with Patrick Stewart more if I didn't have to carry him.
Q: What was it like doing the love scenes with Terry Farrell?
Andrew
MD: Bitchin'
(the chat paused here for a moment, since Michael got kicked out of the room by our robot for saying "Bitchin'")
Q: Worf has lost two wives now. He seems to have become a tragic character in the series, even though his rare humorous side only seems to appear when he is involved in a love match. Will we yet see a third woman catch Worf's eye?
slipztreme
MD: I don't think so. It's very difficult to find actresses to play Worf's wife because they always end up dead.
Q: I have seen all the episodes and read all the tech books but I still don't know the significance of Worf's metal sash or why he wears it with his Starfleet uniform. Any ideas? (I know the one symbol is for the House of Martok)
Kurt
MD: The sash originally was the actual sash worn by the Klingons in the original episodes and in order to read the Worf character's storyline, they came up with the idea that it is a family heirloom that was handed down from generation to generation.
Q: How much money do you make?
Louis
MD: $25.00 a week. Plus meals.
Q: Will the last season of DS9 end with a "bang"?
Ray
MD: Yes it will.
Q: Are there any DS9 episodes coming up in which Worf is the main character?
Chris
MD: There is an episode called, "Once More Unto the Breach", which is a terrific episode with John Colicos.
Q: AFTER DS9 'S FINAL SEASON DO YOU HAVE ANTY FUTURE STAR TREK PLANS LIKE DIRECTING?
GODZILLA
MD: After DS9's final season, I hope to direct, but I never can predict what the future may hold so I just let it happen.
Q: I think a one of your characters strengths on screen is his comedic moments, do you find yourself laughing while filming?
Feklar
MD: On the Next Generation, it was all I could do not to laugh because I'd see myself in my own mind, saying these lines and it seemed ridiculous and my cast members would always take bets to see how far into the dialogue I could get without cracking up.
Q: What prompted you to go major in radio?
Danny
MD: I got kicked out of psychology classes.
Q: Worf is a tragic character of Shakespearean proportions, will he ever find happiness?
Vanessa
MD: Hopefully not. I like playing tragic characters.
Q: If you had a choice, what would happen to Worf in the next episode or movie?
CoW mAn
MD: He would take over as the head of the Klingon Empire. And move it to Hawaii.
Q: Are looking forward to the release of the next movie and are you satisfied with your role in this film.
Barry
MD: Yes and yes.
Q: is LeVar Burton as nice as I've heard he is?
Tony
MD: All the Next Generation actors are incredibly wonderful people.
Q: So what is the real reason the Klingons from the recent series look sooooo different from those on the original series? LOL
Maureen
MD: We have more money for make-up.
Q: Any bad fan stories? (Not meaning to spoil your memories or anything)
CoW mAn
MD: Actually, no.
Q: Were there many pranks played on you while making the film Insurrection?
Ender
MD: No. We as a crew are not really pranksters. We're horribly sarcastic to each other, and don't give much slack, but we're not really pranksters.
Q: Would you like to get something at Burger King sometime Mr. Dorn?
Tony
MD: If I can have it my way.
Q: Who is your favorite singer?
jeff
MD: Woman: Chaka Khan
Man: Lenny Williams from Tower of Power.
Q: Do you have plans to appear in other movies in the future? Anything we should watch out for?
LeonardM
MD: I would everybody within the distance of their TV to watch "Dead Man's Gun" tomorrow night (Friday) on Showtime. I play a Pinkerton detective named John Eastman, in the old West. If you guys make it popular, I will come to each of your houses for dinner. It's on at 10:45 PM Pacific time and Eastern time.
Q: How'd you react when Scotty showed up in "Relics"?
Stafo
MD: It was like acting with a legend.
Q: Which movie do think is the best movie you have been in?
Nam
MD: Star Trek: First Contact.
Q: Have you or anyone else been injured when acting out a fighting scene using your Klingon Battle weapon?
Raymond Johnson
MD: I haven't been injured while using one of the weapons and I don't think anybody has been injured while using one of the weapons, but I did get injured during a fight scene with a stunt person on TNG. He nearly broke my nose.
Q: Did you ever get a script that just made you say "Worf would never do that"? Any thoughts on this?
CoW mAn
MD: Constantly. But they're pretty good about respecting my relationship with Worf. Sometimes.
Q: Mr. Dorn, Whatever happened to Worf's son, Alexander? Will he ever come back on Star Trek again?
Juliette
MD: I don't know for sure, but I think he will make an appearance before the season is over.
Q: Do you have a favorite football team Mr. Dorn?
Tony
MD: We don't have a football team in L.A.
Q: What would you consider to be your favorite line? In the most recent episode of DS9 that I've seen (the baseball game), I heard at least 3 that had me rolling on the floor laughing (figuratively speaking, or course)
brm2032
MD: "Nice planet."
Q: What is the biggest difference you've noticed in moving from the television series to the big screen?
Tim
MD: More time to work on each scene. We do eight pages a day on the TV show and three pages a day at the most on the big screen.
Q: Do you ever tire of countless fan questions ?
David
MD: Never.
Q: do you think Jonathan Frakes is a good director
MD: Jonathan is one of the best and he probably will go very far as a director.
Q: What do you do in your spare time when you aren't working?
Ender
MD: Fly.
Q: Hi, I notice that your character has very broad shoulders. Do they use shoulder pads or are they really yours, if so it really makes you look dignified?
George
MD: Thank you. But yes, I do have shoulder pads.
Q: Hey, Love your character. All i wanted to ask you is that do you sometimes "play" with the set and pretend they are real?
Erick Kloski
MD: Aren't they?
Q: Will Worf get to kill Dukat in honorable combat for killing Worf's wife Jadzia? Will Worf at all become good friends with Ezri?
Honor
MD: I would like to kill Dukat. But I don't think that Ezri and Worf will get together this year.
Q: How do you like your character "Worf" and what are you going to do after the season is over, since this is the final season?
Blue_Ghost
MD: I could not have done 12 years as the character if I didn't love him as much as I do. He's a terrific character. I have no idea what's going to happen next year. If nothing happens, I've had a terrific run, made some good friends and made a bob or two.
Q: I'v seen you on a show called "World of Wonder" - are you still making new episodes?
VOYAGER4235
MD: No, we did three years, but there are no more new episodes.
Q: Are there going to be any movies on DS9 after the 7th season?
Brian
MD: That is a Rick Berman question. I would say, this is Star Trek, so anything's possible.
Q: do you feel worf's character has become way too vain and less subtle since moving to ds9?
gido
MD: No.
Q: Ever have a problem with a scene (i.e. like how to play it)? Whom did you seek out for advice? Who was your mentor(s) past & present?
CoW mAn
MD: All of the Next Generation actors I respect greatly as actors, and the DS9 actors are also seasoned professionals. I have no problem asking anybody how that scene was... could it be better... what they think about it. If I had a mentor, or someone I looked up to, it probably would be Sidney Poitier.
Q: What was your favorite episode to work on last season?
Qo'noSChild
MD: "Change of Heart."
Q: Do you prefer the ponytail or the short hair look on Worf?
Greg
MD: Ponytail.
Q: So, when will we see the Worf versus Data deathmatch?
Jules
MD: What do you think? Worf is stupid?
Q: What sort of movie would you like to do beyond the Star Trek series?
Jess
MD: Film Noir. Detective stories, ala Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett.
Q: Do a lot of people come up to you when you are walking down the street and does that bother you when people do?
John
MD: Luckily, I'm one of the few characters in the Star Trek world that is totally unrecognizable out of make-up. Being an extremely private person, it's been a blessing in disguise. Pardon the pun.
Q: would you really ever want to go into space?
john doe
MD: Yes.
Q: This is not really a Star Trek Question - what do you think about John Glenn mission?
Roy

Q: What is the secret ingredient in Worf sauce and how can I get some?
Sean & Kelly
MD: Pig's intestines.
Q: What do you think about this past baseball season? Are you a big baseball fan?

Q: What similarities do you find in your self that coincide with the personality of Worf?
steve
MD: I find that Worf and MD share a gruff, surly side, but when he is your friend, he's a true friend and he'll do just about anything for you. Except take out your trash.
