Star Trek Host: Will you be at the "Nemesis" premiere?
Gates McFadden: I will be at the Los Angeles premiere.
Q: This is more of a comment than a question. I've been a fan of Star Trek: TNG since I was 7 years old, I'm 22 now. I loved that your character was a strong women in a powerful position. You're a great role model for young women everywhere, as an actress and as a woman. Thank you for that.

GM: Oh, well, I will say thank you for your gracious comment, I'm honored that anyone would consider Beverly a role model. It's important for young people to have inspirations from professionals.
Q: Has playing a doctor had any influence on how you look at the medical profession?

GM: Yes. Now I do my own operations.
Q: Did you have any scenes [in "Nemesis"] with Tom Hardy? If so, what was it like working with him?

GM: I didn't have any scenes with Tom, but I chatted with him and thought he was a very, very terrific young actor.
Q: Do you prefer acting in television or motion picture films?

GM: It doesn't matter. If the role is good and the project interesting, that's all that matters. Not to mention getting paid.
Q: Ms. McFadden, how goes the theatre building in France? I'm only partially informed, could you please share something of it with us?

GM: For the last four years, I have been restoring a property in France with the intention of it becoming a theatre. Each month, I am closer to the goal of a first production. I will inform people about any productions once the theatre is in place. I appreciate all support and interest.
Q: Gates, I loved you in "Voices in the Dark." Any future theatre plans?

GM: I've been working with a group of people on developing new theatre productions. We're in the early stages, we began in Vervier, Switzerland and will be returning there next summer during the music festival.
Q: Hi, Gates! What was it like to work with Jim Henson? And do you still use any of your puppeteer skills?

GM: It was a life-changing experience to meet and work with Jim Henson. I am hoping to use puppetry in my first production in the theatre near Montpelier.
Q: How has the filming of "Star Trek Nemesis" been different from the filming on "Generations," "First Contact" and "Insurrection?"

GM: We had a different director, Stuart Baird, who I liked very much. Other than that, it was the same faces, and the ship had the same name.
Q: What is your favorite Star Trek medical device? multitronic
GM: Hmm, that's a good question. My favorite device was the hypospray, but I loved those colored jars in Sickbay. It took us seven seasons to finally use them, which I did in the episode "Genesis," which I directed.
Q: We know that you are busy with the theatre and family life, but have you given any more thought to getting a Web site going?

GM: Boy, do I wish I could get that together. I'm accepting applications ... Just kidding. Every day I tell myself, "Maybe you'll have time to do it today." Don't count me out.
Q: I loved you in Mad About You, would you consider acting in a sitcom again?

GM: Of course. It was a wonderful series and I enjoy comedy more than anything else.
Q: Gates do you speak French?

Q: Will this truly be the last TNG movie and would you be willing to keep making the films if the opportunity came up?

GM: I have no idea what the studio wants to do. I'm open to the future.
Q: What was it like to work on "Labyrinth?"

GM: It was a year of my life during which time I grew in ways I never would have imagined. I learned so much about producing films. I had wonderful teachers (ie: Jim Henson, George Lucas) and will always be grateful for the opportunity Jim gave me.
Q: Ms. McFadden, first of all hello from a long time BonCer. My question is this: which production would you like to have as your first show at your theatre in France? Any actors you'd like to snag for said project?

GM: The first production will most likely be an original piece developed by some friends and myself.
Q: Hello, Gates. I admire your work on the show. Does your character renew any mother and son emotion with Wil Wheaton in this movie?

GM: We had a short scene that I hear has been cut, I haven't yet seen the movie. I'll see it on Monday night. It was a lovely scene, and I adore Wil Wheaton. We had a wonderful time reminiscing during shooting. My boy is now a man.
Q: Besides "Nemesis," do you have any projects we can watch for you in film or television?

GM: I loved working on "Nemesis," I loved the script and it was easy once again to play Beverly Crusher.
Q: At what age did you decide you wanted to act?

GM: When I was 8 years old. I took lessons at the Coach House Theatre in Akron Ohio.
Q: Ms. McFadden, do you read much? And if so, do you have a favorite author?

GM: I just finished reading "Ignorance" by Milan Kundera. I loved it. I also loved the collection of short stories "Interpreter of Maladies" [by Jhumpa Lahiri]. It's a brilliant collection of short stories, and won the Pulitzer Prize. I highly recommend it. I also love biographies, and have just finished "Abraham Lincoln and the Road to Emancipation" by William K. Klingaman.
Q: What's your favorite Oingo Boingo song? Wil wrote on his Web site that you used to dance around to them during the filming of TNG.

GM: I don't have a particular favorite, but I'm a real New Wave gal.
Q: What is the answer to life, the universe and everything?

By the way, Commander Jim Weatherby and I have been emailing each other during the current launch, I think they're landing today. It's been wild to be an actress who plays an astronaut to get an email from an actual astronaut from space!
Q: Ms. McFadden, did you ever meet Gene Roddenberry? If so, what was he like?

GM: Of course I met Gene Roddenberry, he cast me. He was a funny, brilliant, irreverent man. Not to mention a rascal.
