Star Trek Host: Linda has now arrived, let's get started!
Q: How did you get started acting?
aibo
Linda Park: I've always felt that I was an actor. I started acting at a very early age. I sort of developed my craft as I got older. There was never any time in my life where I haven't acted.
Q: Ms. Park, over the course of the season last year, there seemed to be a special bond between Hoshi and T'Pol. Will we see that develop more? I love your work on the show, btw.
gdog243
LP: First of all, thank you very much. I hope that it does develop more. I know it's one of the relationships on the show that I enjoy exploring, especially since we're the only two women. I think it's important for us to have a bond rather than antagonism.
Q: If Paramount were to pay the bill, would you visit the International Space Station?
ensignsunburn
LP: Of course!
Q: Were you a fan of Star Trek before you were on Enterprise?
zimbing
LP: I wasn't a fan, per se, but I did watch the show, and was especially into The Next Generation.
Q: Ms. Park, do you have any plans to go on to direct episodes of Enterprise like so many others have done?
mavrick
LP: Definitely. Connor (who plays Trip) and I are interested in doing a sort of directing course that Roxann [Dawson] and Robbie [Duncan McNeill] from Voyager did.
Q: What's been the your weirdest fan experience so far?
zimbing
LP: The weirdest experience was to meet someone dressed as my character. It was flattering, and also surreal.
Q: Linda, how is working with Roxann? Is she strict or a softy?
securitron
LP: A little bit of both. She knows exactly what she wants, but she's very supportive and generous.
Q: What would you like to see happen to your character Hoshi in the future?
zimbing
LP: I like the progression of last season as far as Hoshi moving toward being bolder and tougher. I would like to eventually see a darker side.
Q: Any funny stories that have happened on the set you could tell us about?
zimbing
LP: There was an April Fool's joke that the producers played on Scott. He did a ginger ale commercial many years ago, in which he danced and sang. It was a very funny commercial. During a scene, the producers played the commercial on all the screens on the bridge, and everybody started to sing the song that Scott sang on the commercial.
Q: Which of your coworkers is the funniest, and who are you closest to?
joanofarc1701
LP: I would say everybody is hilarious in their own way. Possibly Connor is the one that makes me laugh most. And as far as being close, it's cheesy but we're all close to each other.
Q: Hey, Linda! Anthony Montgomery said that you guys are like family. Do you agree? And how do you feel about spending the next six years with this "family"?
rideout
LP: I definitely agree that we are like a family. I feel blessed to be working with people that I like so much. I look forward to the next six years.
Q: Will there be an episode in Season Two that is entirely devoted to your character?
sarek18
LP: I hope so! We know very little of what will happen in the coming season. Most times, we get the script the night before we start shooting.
Q: How did you react when you heard that you were going to get the part of Hoshi?
soleta255
LP: Surprisingly, I was very calm. It didn't really sink in until a month of shooting.
Q: Hi Linda. On your bio, it says you are certified actor combatant. What kind of styles do you use?
vector360
LP: Well, I'm certified in Quarterstaff, Smallsword, Rapier and Dagger, and in Broadsword.
Q: Hey, Linda. On average, how long is an average work day for you on the set of Enterprise?
roughneck6610
LP: An average day is, I'd say, 16 hours.
Q: How do you feel about being immortalized in plastic as an action figure?
jlaposa
LP: I think it's really cool! My grandchildren will be able to play with my action figure.
Q: Are you working currently on any projects other than Enterprise?
ens101
LP: Just shorts that I'm producing and starring in. It's called my "My Prince, My Angel."
Q: Hey, Linda, why do you think Star Trek has lasted so long?
racoonman
LP: I think it comes down to the morals and principles that are portrayed, and interminable hope for humanity.
Q: What's your favorite episode from Season One?
siempresam
LP: I would probably say "Two Days and Two Nights" was a lot of fun.
Q: Are you good at learning languages in real life? If so, what languages do you speak or read best?
wernerk
LP: I speak Korean, English and Spanish. I love languages in real life as well.
Q: Hello and anyahaseo, Linda! I lived in Korea for eight months this past year, teaching English, and my students knew who you were! How does it feel, as a Korean-American, to be a role-model for Korean children, here and abroad?
k8track
LP: It's overwhelming. I don't think of myself as a role model, but I am glad that the character I portray is one that has characteristics that girls look up to.
Q: You are definitely not the first that this has happened to in Hollywood or in the world of Star Trek casting, but what do you think about playing a character that is Japanese when you yourself are Korean?
Mashu
LP: I'm an actor. I should be able to play any role, whether Japanese, Irish, or from outer space. It's funny the comments that have come out of me playing a Japanese character when we always see British actors playing Americans or vice versa.
Q: Do you still perform your ballroom dancing?
bighairykev
LP: No, I don't. It's been really hard to juggle my schedule lately. And while I still take ballet, I haven't done ballroom in a while.
Q: Linda, I understand you used to do theatre. Do you still? What's your favorite play that you've done?
shockaree
LP: Yes, I still do theater. I have a theater company that I started with a friend of mine before I got Star Trek. And one of my favorite plays is "The Three Sisters" by Anton Chekhov.
Q: Hi Linda, do have anything in common with your character, Hoshi?
vulcanprincess45
LP: I think to play any character, you first find the similarities, no matter how different they are from you. I think the biggest thing that we share is a love of what we do.
Q: Were you intimidated by the prospect of joining a phenomenon as large as Star Trek?
joanofarc1701
LP: I don't think I was intimidated, but more excited for the unknown, so to speak.
Q: What is it like working with Porthos?
multitronic
LP: He's adorable. But we don't get to hold him unless we do a scene, because his training gets derailed.
Q: Hello Linda, do you have any pets?
horn_1121
LP: No, I do not.
Q: What was your last vacation and where would you like to go in the future?
vector360
LP: My last vacation was to New York and my next one will probably be, again, to New York.
Q: What hobbies do you enjoy in your free time, Linda? Or when you had free time?
mar_cus
LP: Dancing has always been my second love and whenever I have free time, I'm in dance class.
Q: Since you are a bronze level ballroom dancer, have Berman and Braga shown any interest in using that?
lovellama
LP: Not yet. But we all have talents on the show that I think will eventually be used.
Q: I was wondering if you had any interest in astronomy before Enterprise, and what are your thoughts on alien life out there in the real universe?
Whanomylee
LP: I was always fascinated by the vastness of space. I think that we should always be open to possibilities — that includes other species and everything we explore on the show.
Q: For better or worse, some say Enterprise uses its young cast to titillate for the sake of ratings (I'm not complaining!). Have you yourself ever felt offended by this accusation or being referred to as "sexy" or as a "sex symbol?" You are, in fact, a splendid actress. I hope to see you get the opportunity to act in features!
zampmj
LP: I think that it's a way for this franchise to re-energize itself with a young, sexier cast, and I don't feel compromised by that, because while they explore that aspect of us as actors and characters, they also explore many other aspects. It's not a T&A show, but it is a sexy show.
Q: Linda, what is your favorite book?
sval
LP: Oh, I have so many! Two of the top ten would be "The Alchemist" and "Franny and Zooey."
Q: Can you give us any inside information in any upcoming episodes of Enterprise?
borg_8_of_9
LP: All I can say is that it does get sexier.
Q: Linda, what kind of music do you like?
g_virus
LP: I have very eclectic taste. But I really love hip-hop. I like old school hip-hop, so Digable Planets, De La Soul ...
Q: Do you play a musical instrument?
funkyphil
LP: I play the piano and I'm learning to play the guitar right now.
Q: What is your favorite alien species on Enterprise?
kingofborg
LP: Probably the Ferengi, because they're so hilarious.
Q: Linda, besides Star Trek, what type of TV shows do you enjoy?
keithbandy
LP: My favorite TV show that I watch without fail is Sex and the City. I love most of the shows on HBO — The Sopranos, The Wire ...
Q: Linda, do you get on the 'net often?
nova7
LP: I just recently got internet access, but I still rarely go on.
Q: Ms. Park, do you have any fears? Like arachnophobia, claustrophobia, etc.?
soleta255
LP: No.
Q: Who do you look to for inspiration?
multitronic
LP: In real life? My friends. I'm surrounded by talented, passionate, inspired people.
Q: Linda, do you watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
inquisitor
LP: No, I don't. (laughs)
Q: I've been playing piano for 18 years, nice to hear you're a player as well. Do you have a favorite composer?
Musicmaker
LP: I would have to say Beethoven.
Q: Are there any plans to come to the UK to do a convention?
zimbing
LP: Yes. I'm going to do this coming May one in London and one in Germany.
Q: Do you ever feel funny watching yourself on TV, like embarrassed or something?
zemixz
LP: Sometimes I make fun of myself if Hoshi's whining too much.
Q: What director would you most like to work with and why?
captain_q_macleod
LP: Allan Kroeker, Jim Contner and Roxann.
Q: Do you get much say in how your character develops?
drdeprez
LP: I can give input to Brannon, but ultimately, it's up to Rick and Brannon and the writers.
Q: Ms. Park, what is your favorite food?
barclay11001001
LP: That's a good question. Breakfast is my favorite meal, and I love pancakes.
Q: Linda, where do you see yourself in your career in 10 years?
horn_1121
LP: I've come to the conclusion that we can never know what the future holds, so I've stopped trying. But as far as goals, my goal is to eventually be in and produce films that impact people.
