As science officer, Valtane served abaord the U.S.S. Excelsior, NCC-2000 under Captain Sulu and with then-Ensign Tuvok. Lieutenant Valtane was unaware he carried a memory virus in his brain, which was transferred to Tuvok upon his death. This instance occurred in 2293, in the vicinity of the Azure Nebula, during a battle with several Klingon ships.
