Smart, sassy and an expert in xenolinguistics, the study of alien languages, morphology, phonology, and syntax. Kirk interprets this to mean that Uhura has “a talented tongue,” a description that doesn’t seem to bother her. She’s one of Spock’s top students, gifted with exceptional aural sensitivity and, per Spock, possesses “an unparalleled ability to identify sonic anomalies in subspace transmission tests.” But that’s just the public Uhura. In private, she spends a lot of close personal facetime with Mr. Spock.
