During the years immediately following Zefram Cochrane's first warp flight in 2063, several groups of human colonists struck out into the unknown reaches of interstellar space. A series of human settlements, all named "Terra," was established, including one on the lone planet of the Cepheus System, a world with a crystalline surface and considerable volcanic activity; because it was the tenth in the series of colonies, this world was dubbed "Terra Ten," although the descendants of the original colonists would come to know it years later as "Terratin." Because of the peculiar spiroid energy waves bombarding the surface of their world, each of the colonists (known by the 23rd century as "Terratins") shrank to only a few millimeters in height. The population's survival was in considerable doubt before their relocation to the planet Verdanis by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
