He became the ship's tactical officer after saving 13 men from capture by Cardassians on Setlik III by suddenly figuring out how to work a field transporter. Years later, it was sent with the U.S.S. Tecumseh to evacuate Ajilon Prime against the Klingons during the Arcanis sector crisis, after the U.S.S. Farragut is destroyed.
