Star Trek: The Next Generation

Episode: TNG 132 - Loud as a Whisper

It was quite a coup when TNG landed Michelle Phillips as one its first feats of “stunt casting” in Season 1 for “We’ll Always Have Paris.”  Phillips, who played the first known former love of Captain Picard, Jenice Manheim, was Cass Elliott’s other female colleague in the legendary 1960’s folk-rock quartet, the Mamas and the Papas, co-writing hits including both “Creeque Alley” and “California Dreamin’ “.

Phillips, the last surviving member of the foursome, was born in 1944 in  Long Beach, Calif., as Holly Michelle Gilliam,  and later saw her daughter Chynna make wavesas a member of the 1990s pop trio Wilson Phillips.  No stranger to acting, Philips  debuted in the film Dillinger, and enjoyed several seasons playing Anne Matheson Sumner in the nighttime soap opera  Knots Landing, as well as the role of Valerie’s mother Abby Malone on Beverly Hills 91210 and most recently on 7th Heaven as Lily Jackson, sister of Catherine Hicks’ lead character Annie Camden.
