Independent world (pronounced "CLAY-stron") in Bajor's neighborhood that is home to a space-faring humanoid race with ties to both the United Federation of Planets and the Cardassians. It received Federation mediation during its civil war (circa 2339 and has a unilateral extradition treaty with the United Federation of Planets but not with Bajor -- especially since it apparently obtained layout and security plans of Deep Space Nine from the Cardassians. The late Gen. Ardelon Tandro was a martyred civil war hero, and statues to him are everywhere. After a zealous son's attempted prosecution of Science Officer Dax in 2369, relations are normalized enough with Bajor so that Doctor Bashir can later visit there to inspect its doctors' new burn treatment technology.
