This Ambassador-class starship, registry NCC-26517, was one of 23 ships in Captain Picard's blockade along the Romulan-Klingon border.
In early 2368 (Stardate 45020.4), the Excalibur underwent repairs and crew reassignments when it was hauled out of spacedock to join the fleet. Captain Picard named Commander Riker and Chief Engineer La Forge to serve as its captain and first officer, respectively.
