A Starfleet light cruiser that Commander Riker had first crack at commanding in 2364 when he turned it down to remain on the starship Enterprise. The ship disappeared in the Lorenze cluster on stardate 41798.2 and was found destroyed by the arms-dealer computers of Minos.

Another starship called Drake , of unspecified class and registry, took heavy casualties with the Armstrong following a Klingon ambush during the Archanis tensions in early 2373. [Not to be confused with the same-named light cruiser destroyed at Minos.]
