Center of the Altair system, the planet was recovering from a longtime intersystem war when the U.S.S. Enterprise was ordered to attend its new president's inauguration ceremony in 2267. The visit was postponed, however, when the ship diverted to planet Vulcan to attend to Spock's mating ritual in order to save his life.
Altair VI is part of a Starfleet Academy training simulation in which the Kobayahsi Maru has presumably left that planet and sustains damage from a gravitic mine in the Klingon Neutral Zone.
