Two years after appearing on TNG as Jono, the displaced Talarian teen in 1990’s “Suddenly Human,” young Chad Allen signed on for the signature role of his career as Matthew Cooper, seen for six years on CBS’s Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
Born Chad Allen Lozarrio in the Los Angeles suburb of Cerritos, Allen had already played Tommy, the autistic son of Dr. Westphal for three years on NBC’s often quirky medical drama St. Elsewhere—andits finale imagines the entire series as the product of his imagination. Allen had also gleaned teen-idol status even earlier, with regular young roles on Our House and especially the sitcom My Two Dads, both on NBC.
Since 1996, Allen has been a spokesman and advocate for gay rights issues while maintaining his career. He is a three-time Young Artist Award and GLAAD Media Award honoree as well, and has portayed gay provate detective Donald Strachey in the Third Man Out series of TV movies for the here! network. He also appears as Eric Whitlow on SOAPnet's General Hospital: Night Shift, and played a killer in Season 5 of Showtime's popular "Dexter."
