Jason Sikes pointed out that this item is shown on page 71 of the new
Star Trek Magazine in their article about the Auction. Jason and Patricia Anile
from Mar del Plata, Argentina both mentioned our Behind Star Trek article
Designing Deep Space Nine with Herman Zimmerman. The gallery of concept art
shows a few images that are similar to this model.
Some others ventured interesting guesses - cloaking device, a container
of Cardassian Yammok Sauce, transporter inductor, V'Ger, part of the Bajoran Light Ship, Klingon Orbital Mining Facility, and our personal favorite: self-sealing stem bolt.
