In the newly remastered visual effects of "The Doomsday Machine" (top), we get a much more striking image of the damage done to the Constellation by the extragalactic planet killer, with debris from the destroyed solar system added to the shot.
To quote Michael Okuda from a recent STARTREK.COM interview: "You can see mangled details inside the decks. One of the nacelles is ripped open and you can see the warp coils inside. The other one is partly shredded. You really get a sense of the power of the planet killer and the desperation that drives Decker."
