The original matte painting of an automated ore processing station on planet Delta Vega
is a beautiful image, believed to have been created in 1965 by legendary matte artist
Albert Whitlock. Virtually no changes were made to Whitlock's work for the painting's first
two scenes in the episode. The third scene was set in the predawn hours of the following day,
so matte artist Max Gabl made a few minor revisions to Whitlock's painting, subtly altering
the lighting and adding some lights on the equipment structures.
