An amazing new photo of Saturn's north pole puts the planet's odd hexagon-shaped jet stream and dazzling rings on display.

The storm on Saturn could explain the reason why snowflakes on Earth always seem to be hexagonal in shape.

Interesting how snowflakes are hexagonal and the storm on Saturn is hexagonal possibly leading to a new convergence on how planets interact with each other.

Thanks 23magic...I can call you 23magic right?

What are your thoughts on the relationship between the hexagonal storm swirl on Saturn and the hexagonal shape of snowflakes here on Earth?

I would really like to know.

Simply the rules or program for this universe. Every thing is mathematical in nature after all.

Reminds me of being a player in a video game.

Yes, you can call me that.

The hexagonal shape is very interesting. It is very strange to think it is a natural occurence. Perhaps there is a relation to earth's weather after all. I wonder what would cause that particular shape to form.           Fascinating.

Amazing photo!  I wonder what those other shapes inside it represent.

This spectacular view from NASA's Cassini mission is the highest-resolution view of the unique six-sided jet stream at Saturn's north pole known as 'the hexagon.' This movie, made from images obtained by Cassini's imaging cameras, is the first to show the hexagon in color filters, and the first movie to show a complete view from the north pole down to about 70 degrees north latitude.
