Some progress on Neural Networks:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2014/01/27/google-deepmind-artificial-intelligence/4943049/

SAN FRANCISCO — Google has acquired London-based start-up DeepMind to expand further into the field of artificial intelligence.

DeepMind describes itself as a "cutting-edge artificial intelligence company." It combines techniques from machine learning and systems neuroscience to build powerful general-purpose learning algorithms.

DeepMind published a study in December that claimed to show the firm's AI technology learning to play some Atari computer games better than expert human gamers.

DeepMind's technology performed better than humans on Breakout, Enduro and Pong, and it achieved "close to human performance" on Beamrider, according to the research paper.

Good to see that some companies, both small and large, are pushing ahead with AI and Robotic research.

Google has the financial muscle to make this happen more quickly.

The race is on to create an Intelligent Search Engine using a neural network - one which will automatically carry out searches of all Internet pages, and "learn and store" the knowledge it finds.

This neural network will become the most knowledgeable "being" on Earth, with access to all the knowledge of mankind on the Net.

Will Google win the race, or are the Vulcans already there?

Mr Spock, can you enlighten us? Are your Vulcan super-robots already here amongst us?

Hopefully Google will be able to create the first Smart Bot that can be sent to the Moon and conduct mining operations for the foundation of a human settlement to be built.

Ensign:

You will need regulation and safeguards to ensure this technology does not get mis-used or fall into the wrong hands. There are many other Earth organisations working on this type of project, but Google has the resources to take the lead.

The Vulcan brain can be the equivalent of the "most-knowlegeable-being" you describe. Our educational system uses conventional techniques, but can also use the "mind meld" to transfer the complete Vulcan knowledge to selected individuals.

Thanks Alfamav:

This looks like a race to world domination!

Just looked at the link to the YouTube video which you included above.

You didn't explain what was in it, so people might not bother to watch it.

It looks fascinating, so have added it here again:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLp-edwiGUU

The comparison of the Internet, with its billions of hyperlinks, and the human brain, with its billions of synapses - is most interesting!

LL&P

So let me get this right: Your Earth physics is based upon the idea that an electron has one unit of electrical charge, which is exactly equal and opposite to the charge on a proton, which is almost 2000 times bigger! Furthermore, these charges normally repel like charges, but not when electrons are close together in an atom, nor when protons are close together in an atomic nucleus! You must be crazy!

Hi Brianstrom999 - forgot to explain that link - thanks.

Wondered what had happened to you - thought you had left the planet!

Or have you been helping EDisConstant translate the Vulcan science into Earth language?

BTW - just love your signature - have put some Spockisms in mine.

LL&P.

Spockism 1: "In this universe, there is no Mass, Weight, Charge or Gravity: There is only Energy." Spockism 2: "All motion is ORBITAL and GYROSCOPIC." Spockism 3: For Photons: "Energy x Wavelength is constant." For Wave-Particles: "Energy x Diameter is constant."

"Manhattan project for AI"

“If anyone builds something remotely resembling artificial general intelligence, this will be the team,” one early investor in DeepMind told Re/code today. “Think Manhattan Project for AI.”

Langone Study reports major advance in synthetic biology March 27, 2014

An international team of scientists led by Jef Boeke, PhD, director of NYU Langone Medical Center’s Institute for Systems Genetics, has synthesized the first functional chromosome in yeast, an important step in the emerging field of synthetic biology, designing microorganisms to produce novel medicines, raw materials for food, and biofuels.
