In S02E12, at about 16min., Sisko describes his father's battle with an illness and what sounds like his eventual death. But Sisko's father becomes a key character later on as the hearty Louisiana chef.

I just noticed this and thought I'd share.

A character previously described as deceased appearing in several episodes is exactly how I would describe a plot hole.

What are your qualifications?

thats just it, he was never,NEVER described as deceased...........only as gravely ill.

sure, the dialog is vague enough to give the impression that he died, but they never defintivly state that sisko's father died.Only that he was very ill, and that Ben finally realised that there wasnt anything he could do to make things better.

That's what I'd call a trivial continuity error, not a plot hole.

they never said his father died...they made him sound really sick, on deaths door even, but not dead.

Unless they actually said he was dead, there is no problem. Even later in the series, the guy was about to keel over any second.

SPOILER ALERT!

In one of the Star Trek novels (Typhon Pact series?), Benjamin's dad passes away.  But, he and Bnjamin had apparently parted ways earlier, when Ben chose to go into space rather than stay in New Orleans with the family restaurant.
