i'm sure a second warp core would add much more power to the ship's systems

They probably did not install 2 warp cores on the same ship because of cost and because of safety.  The idea sounds good--I always like backups--but it might be too dangerous in practice.


I do like multiple nacelles, though, like the four in several classes of starships.

Having two warp cores doesn't mean a faster velocity as the warp core only converts the stored deterium slush into an energy potential which is then phase shifted through the PTC into the engine nacelles where the components of the nacelles then generate the warp field that drives the starship through space.


Having more nacelles is really not needed and just like a woman if you learn to tweak them just right then you might even reach a potential energy velocity of warp ten and faster.

I know that having a second warp core would not boost warp velocity, but it would give the ship more power.
That power from one core could power the engines while the other power shields and weapons.
