Q was just hilarious. He was a great villain, and John D'Lancy is a really good actor.

I've always considered Q the ultimate critic not so much a "Villian", he's that person that the crew writes off as "trouble-maker, arrogant and self-centered", but his insights and opinions are more illuminating than the crew can comprehend at first.  He always seemed to show some disguised concern and respect for Humanity in those snarky comments, which is what I found interesting.

As much as I wanted to see him in more episodes, I believe the producers were wise to bring him in only a handful of times over the 7 TNG seasons, so he could insult the crew on their recent adventures and provide some commentary on the current state of affairs.  He definately helped bring epic closure to TNG, bringing the show full-circle and showing how far the crew had come in 7 years.
