Up on Jupiter and Saturn, the skies are filled with diamonds.

Diamonds, the saying goes, are a girl's best friend. Jupiter and Saturn just might be filled to the brim with them, scientists say.

Chunks of diamonds may be floating in hydrogen and helium fluid deep in the atmospheres of Saturn and Jupiter. What's more, at even lower depths, the extreme pressure and temperature can melt the precious gem, literally making it rain liquid diamond, researchers said.

"The new data available has confirmed that at depth, diamonds may be floating around inside of Saturn, some growing so large that they could perhaps be called 'diamondbergs,'" officials from California Specialty Engineering in Pasadena, Calif., wrote in a statement announcing the discovery Wednesday. Planetary scientists Mona Delitsky of CSE and Kevin Baines of the University of Wisconsin-Madison conducted the research.

This is an awesome discovery that will inspire space fans and space engineers to figure out ways of extracting the diamonds from Jupiter.

Diamonds from Jupiter and Saturn would create a new industry that would pay for new ventures into space.

I mean what woman wouldn't want to wear a ring that had diamond studds that came from Jupiter or Saturn?

Let alone the Bling rings worn everyone else.

I think it would be awesome to wear a Herring Bone inlaid with diamonds from Jupiter or Saturn that said "Dog"

We have to find supporters for a recon mission to Jupiter and Saturn to start this space endeavor.

I'm heading to De Beers.

This is old news, but interesting.
Yes, under the incredible pressures and
temperatures nearer the core of gas giants,
the carbon likely becomes like a sea of liquid
diamond, with "diamondbergs" floating around in it.
As far as there being a "market" for this item and
being able to, some HOW, fish these things out of
our neighborhood Gas Giants, this idea's absurdity
does underscore how little value knowledge like
this really is ...

I wonder if some of those diamonds might be the result of some of the meteors that crashed into those heavy-gravity planets.  Or, perhaps the pressure just coalesced the carbon that drifted there.

You must be a Conservative because something is too hard to do then we shouldn't even consider trying to master the impossible. Alexander the Great would have made certain you were put in the front line for being a shirker.

Such an impossible feat would once again elevate the human spirit and passion for advancement and excellence instead of being a lazy bum sitting on a rock bull frogging hoping that something will happen without actually having to do something to make it happen....definiately Conservative thinking twotakesfrakes lazy and brainwashed by the canon that you see on TV.

Someone put him in the ejector tube.

dryson, this conversation suddenly got very strange.
No glory lives behind the back of such. So, how about it?

Let's call a truce .... Agree to disagree and all that.
