Yes this is rather thin, vague, and extremely premature, none the less.....what do we think?

Regardless of what JJ said about CBS not being interested in a new series, we know how well he is at deception, keeping secrets and telling, "the noble lie" lol.

So....What do we think?  Alternate universe?  Remake of another series?  Darker?  On a ship again?  CBS is heavily involved with remastering all the series which means they are heavily involved in *cough original universe cough* If Orci met with CBS does that mean we will have an alternate universe series (I hope not). Will it mean an animated series (Please...NO)  Does it mean a fresh take on the series Ron Moores BSG style?  I say original universe, 25th century and beyond, new exploration, lets get back to the basics but NOT IN THE STYLE OF THE NEW MOVIES.

I believe CBS was not interested in an animated series that JJ proposed based on his Alternate universe. Their foot dragging kind of reminds me of NBC back in the '60's and their somewhat reluctant attitude towards TOS. I don't think a network is a good home for Trek. TNG became a success through syndication, maybe something similar should be considered for any new series.

And yeah, 25th century, post Nemisis is the way to go.

Please. No more remakes. What does it say about us that all the new shows/movies are remakes of old ones? I am hoping for a little after the DS9/VOY era, maybe a new starship or a station? Anything.

I would love to see 25th century however I think it is not likely.  If you are CBS you will want to capitalize on the new fanbase created by the new movies.

Now imagine this, it takes place in the new JJ timeline however it has great writing and follows more canon like the old universe.  That my friends would make for good trek any day.

I also think there is a fair possibility of a TNG reboot taking place in the JJ timeline.  CBS would then be capitalizing on the new fanbase and the most popular series BY FAR of the old timeline.

They could "hotrod" the enterprise D but still use great writing which is what makes trek TV.

A series featuring either a refit Ent E or Ent F, set 20 years after Nemesis. Karl Urban cast as the Captain. I'd be into that.

Karl Urban would be great!  Sadly he would probably be too expensive.  But who knows, he seems to love trek enough to perhaps give them a discount, LOL.

Imagine a TNG reboot without annoying Wesley or Troi and a more kick ass Ro Laren.

I don't know if Urban would be too expensive. He's not really a mainstream actor. I loved him in 'Dredd' and as the bad guy in 'Priest' but they were genre films. He's now connected to Trek and I think he would jump at the chance to create a new, iconic, leading main character.

Well hopefully whatever it is does not take long and we start hearing things sooner rather than years from now.

They should have a different people than Earthlings or Vulcans play the role of the Cap. Also, a male com officer.

Blalock & Nimoy were the best two actors in the Star Trek universe. Go Vulcans!

I agree syndication is best.  If it's on a single network it has to be in a resepectable time slot, no more UPN fiasco.  I am Canadian so I never had to deal with that Star Trek as always been on the Space channel.  And if it is on a single network it has to be SyFy and Space chanels, its where I go to watch sci fi.  HBO has been thrown around by fans, if its that kind of show, for sure.

Bottom line, if it's an anternate universe, I have no problem as long as it is written well.

A remake of TNG, I have no idea how on Earth you recast Picard or Data.

A non human captain is a great idea.

I don't mind an animated series as long as it looks good and takes itself seriously. The time period doesn't really matter to me, but if I had to choose I'd set it in the early 2400s (original universe).

As UtopiaPlanitia said, I wish they could move forward, along the Star Trek Online time, into the 25th century.  A ship would probably give you more story options than a starbase or space station, although these could occasionally feature prominently in an episode.

Perhaps a popular but not-overused species could be highlighted.  Or, what about my Zakdorns?  What do the rest of you Federation people really know about us?

There are a number of viable, long-term opportunities.  Just no more series like Enterprise!  Please!

I would love to see another TREK series on TV

And if they did it like the old Colombo / MacMillen and Wife / McCloud rotating series they could cover three STAR TREK eras with 1/3 the cost and 1/3 the deadline burden.

"Welcome to the Star Trek Universe. This week, The Original Series..."

Or

"Welcome to the Star Trek Universe. This week, The Next Generation..."

Or

"Welcome to the Star Trek Universe. This week, Enterprise..."

Or even

"Welcome to the Star Trek Universe. This week, The Romulan War..."

(Not a big fan of Voyager or Deep Space Nine)

Any way you look at it, CBS by sitting on their tushy rather than jumping on this stands to lose $$ MILLIONS $$

There are not just a few folks pitching similar ideas to other networks and cable networks who need the ratings boost. Remember how NBC flubbed it in the 1960's ! ! !

Agreeing with all of that.
Especially intrigued at the nonhuman captain idea. I'd be really interested in that. It would bring a whole new line of conflict and plot. It would be really refreshing too.
You know what species I want to see back in action? Not necessarily as a captain, but as crew or something? Denobulans. I'm sure my amusing username gave that one up. But really, Phlox was an interesting character, and the information on that species would add some amusing and very interesting plotlines. I'd like to see more Vulcans too, as main characters, not used as red tape. Spock and T'Pol had story lines I really could get into. There are a lot of species that need some more spotlight.

Ever mindful of Trek possibilities, I watch other characters and productions with a new ST series in mind. Movies are okay and all but I would rather have 5 series on than one movie the wait, the money the politics the tempermental producers actors etc...

Give me starving actors and out of work producers every time!!!

I think Michael Weatherly would make an excellent James T. Kirk (more along the lines of TOS / Shatner) and with a bit of the radical Chris Pine aspect to him plus the wisdom that only comes with age.

Call me goofy (I've been called worse) I think his co star Pauley Parrette would make an excellent modern twist character for Spock. Yes Spock.  One who has a bit of a rebellious streak against the establishment of Vulcan who did nothing as her peers brutalized her in growing up... who can smile and have a sense of humor (if only to protest Kolinar in some small way).

I think Gary Sinise would make an excellent Dr. McCoy.
