When viewers watched the classic series way back - do you think that they envisaged that Kirk would develop a pot belly in the later movies? His sweater pulled tightly to accomodate his gut.

It doesn't make him any less heroic though, IMO

Goodness me!

I don't think they envisioned that these actors would be playing the same role decades later.

Kirk, Scotty and Uhura all bloated out,
while McCoy and Spock were both emaciated.
The remaining two simply looked their ages.

STAR TREK would've never worked with this
type of cast, had VOYAGE HOME been the first
STAR TREK ever made. It would've been laughed
at for all the wrong reasons and never would've
been successful. Rightly so, probably. BUT ...

Because it's how STAR TREK evolved, it was strangely
comforting, knowing that "the crew" was still together
and having adventures. It was inspirational, I suppose,
showing how the elderly could continue to be relevant,
making important and valued contributions to society.

People get old. They can’t stay young forever?  Not in this existence. Every ones bodies go to pot when it ages.  Only some try to hid the truth with finesse and surgeries. Too afraid to state the obvious.

Actors, whether they be on Stage, T.V.,
or in Motion Pictures, are supposed to
be particularly photogenic. There are
many aging, even elderly, people who
have managed to keep in shape. They
swim, run .... they do something ...

Sir Patrick Stewart, for the longest time,
it was obvious he exercises, some way.

So, to see Shatner wearing that stupid
hair hat and girdle, or Doohan with all
of that overhang was kind of surprising,
in a way. Unless it's in "Grumpy Old Men,"
or something, you don't usually see the
main cast of a major event movie looking
so old and decrepit whilst out $aving the day.
I mean ... wow! That's absolutely incredible!!!

Just wait until the Glee flim comes out in 40 years. The majaor stars, supposed high school students are no older than 27, of which there are 3--Michele, Rivera, & Criss. No doubt u get the point. Now, of course, they could not get away with that 40 years from now deal w/ Downton Abbey, too many of the major stars will be dead by then. Well, at least 2.

Blalock & Nimoy were the best two actors in the Star Trek universe. Go Vulcans!

Not to worry, holograms will save the day. Either that or robots. Heck maybe even cyborgs.
Clones?
