What do you want (or not want) to see in the next Trek film?

Finally just saw Into Darkness.  Don't get me wrong, I Liked it a lot just because its star trek and with 2013 Film making techniques to boot, but I was disapointed that Kahn was the villain.  I really wanted to see them do something completely new.  I didn't like, that in Trek 2009, they destroyed all of vulcan and changed the timeline.  However, at least with that happening, it made it REALLY easy for them to do something COMPLETELY new and yet they just re-used kahn.

That being said, for the next film I still really want to see them do something completely new.  I don't wanna see a reimagining of any of the original TOS films, Especially the final frontier (as one person suggested in another thread) and absolutely NO Kahn.  I'd like there to be an exploration theme to the movie and to see at least a one (but preferably several) new alien species, never before seen.  Also I'd like to see the klingons have at least a minor if not medium sized role.  However, as others have suggested, and as Into darkness itself lends itself too, I don't want to see a Klingon war.  I actually love all the Klingon plotlines throughout every version of star trek that exists, but there is not enough time in a single film to explore that, and if I'm not mistaken the current cast is only contracted for one more film.  Even if the movie was 4hrs long, it wouldn't be enough time.  A Klingon war is much better suited for a a TV series, or at least a very long planned out structure like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One last thought... I hope they have an upgraded Enterprise in the next film.  Like the NCC-1701A or B.  Not sure how likely that is, seeing that the current NCC-1701 was completely repaired at the end of Into Darkness.

I hope for a few things....

1) They stop making all the trek aliens look like tatooed humans.

2) they bring in a writer that can make a plot that doesnt exist of time travel or a retred idea from an old TOS episode.

Let's see Jim Kirk do right by Carol Marcus ...
after he knocks her up. Have him marry her and
make an honest woman out of her ... as they feed
and water their seed ... together. And also, let's
see Gary 7 enter into the mix with Ms. Lincoln.
What, with his time-travelling exploits, Seven
could only add to the texture of the Abram's
universe. Only this time, leave the cat out ...

More exploration of new life, and new civilizations.

A more personal story, and not another galactic interstellar threat.

A less emotional Spock.

A more mature Kirk.

An end to the High School drama between Spock and Uhura.

If the new Trek film uses familiar aliens such as the Romulans or Klingons then they should look like familiar aliens to us. Not those tattooed or strange clothing versions that we saw in 2009 and in Into Darkness. When I see a familiar Romulan or Klingon on the screen then that helps to make it feel like the Trek I know. If they don't want to do that then, JJ Abrams and co, should just go with totally new aliens say perhaps in a new region of space that the Enterprise is exploring. That would be perfectly fine with me. Also since, this would be Star Trek's 50th year anniversary then it would be nice if previous Star Trek celebrities be asked to be a part of it. Some want to as I've seen in some of their interviews. Obviously, they can't portray their previous characters but they can fill in as supporting characters for the new crew. It sure would be nice to see some of them again and on the big screen. I think 2016 is the year to celebrate ALL OF STAR TREK not just the newest crew.

I'd like to see the Cardassians make an appearance. They were pretty great adversaries in the TNG/DS9 era, and they'd be great antagonists (or protagonists?) in an Abramsverse movie. I do hope their appearance remains the same, however.

I also hope the next movie focuses more on exploration. And maybe more than one protagonist ship than just the Enterprise - the Abramsverse counterpart of the USS Constellation or USS Defiant would be nice.

I'd rather not see any TNG or post TNG references in JJ Trek. But I bet you they're bringing back the Borg.

I Loved the 2009 Star Trek, would love to see more of the "Next Generation" kids. Really thought the "children" of Kirk, Spock, Bones, Chekov,Sulu & Uhura was fabulous. Would love to see them again along with Worf (Klingon), Data, 7 of 9, & Neelix "Children". Didn't get to see the "Into the Darkness" Star Trek movie, but will see it as soon as it is out on DVD. Would love to see them expore a new area of "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and find new species that the creative genious's of today could Create.

I'd love to see a new trek film featuring the borg.  However, I don't think an abrams film with TOS characters would be the right time for that.  I mean, they're just starting their first 5 year mission at the end of Into Darkness.  Plus with the technology they currently have they wouldn't have a chance.

Maybe after the 3rd abrams film when the current cast's contracts are up (assuming they don't get extended for more films) they could do that... either with a younger TNG crew or completely new characters.  HaHa.. who would play a young picard.. would he have hair?

Of course. I completely forgot about that.  But you have to take into consideration that in that scenario they weren't anywhere near the full possible strength of the borg.  I mean it was just a couple borg stranded on Earth.  They had to make their getaway with a Starfleet transport (from that time period) combined with their own salvaged tech (from a sphere, not cube) that resulted in a vessel that was (at least not initially) superior to the enterprise.  Even then, they just barely managed to defeat those borg.

So I guess if they wanted to do something like that, you could make it work.  Still, IMO it be much better to save them for another time

It's an interesting question. Many fans want to answer it in specifics...but I'm thinking more generalities this time around.

WHAT I DON'T WANT:

1. Giant black bad-guy ship that could annihilate the Enterprise in less than one minute in a fight.

2. Spock / Uhura relationship focus

3. A villian motivated by revenge

4. Pacing that is so fast and action-oriented that it over takes the ability to get to know the characters and build emotional tension into the story.

5. A story that is bold enough not to have a major plot line taking place on Earth. Movie goers can handle it, I promise you.

WHAT I DO WANT:

1. A story that focuses on the Kirk / Spock / McCoy friendship and dynamic.

2. The Enterprise being treated like an important and magestic character rather than an intergalactic punching bag

3. An exploration story! I know lots of folks (even myself at one point) would argue that this kind of plot won't equal box office returns...but I'm not sure that's true. If they turned a mission into an "Indiana Jones" style quest story across multiple planets, trying to piece clues together and outracing a fun, nasty villian to the final goal I think they could pull it off. I'd love to see a story built like "Raiders" or "Last Crusade" where some significant discovery in the galaxy is just waiting for us, but the crew needs to outrun and outwit villians who are trying to use that discovery for evil.

4. Even more focus on character. More tension and relationship-building. More stuff like we saw between Kirk and Pike, except between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.

5. Spock and Kirk moving more toward the characters they were in the original series, with Kirk as a mature, respected but still aggressive / risk-taking commander and Spock the thoughtful, emotionless sidekick who doesn't get into a fistfight or a burst of rage every 15 minutes.

I'd like to see some links to the other series not just TOS to give a clearer link between the difference series. Perhaps the feature of some Cardassians or Trills. It would be more interesting to know more about Trills and the Cardassians are one of my favourite species. Since Dax was around at the time of Kirk maybe there could be the possibility of seeing her as one of her previous hosts? I'd love for another film to be made, I think Chris Pine plays Kirk well.

I dont want to see that much of earth, it would be more interesting to see some new planets, actually do some exploring!!
