I’m think about getting a new tablet in the future cause of my recent run in with computer failures.  I was thinking of getting a Samsung or a Kindle Fire.
I plan on using it for checking and replying e-mail, surfing the net, downloading shows, listening to music and reading the occasional e-book.  But I don’t plan on using it for projects relating to illustration, creating graphics and the like.
Which one would you buy or what would you purchase that would fit the bill?

Not interested in the I-pad for the time being even though it really sounds cool.

Please note that I plan on using this as a backup for when and if something goes worng with my computer and I need access to the net.

Also are there any Trek themed stuff would you recommend ? Since these look a lot like those pads they use on many of the shows and I thought I have some personalization fun.

Thanks for looking and replying.

When it comes to tablets, I like starting with form factor (size) and operating system first.  If you're an Apple person, look at the iPad.  If you perfer Windows, then the Surface.  If you're comfortable with Android, then the rest.  Any of these will do the items that you've listed.

If you're planning on using it as a "backup" for when your comptuer goes down, then I'd look at the applications that you're going to need while your main computer is down.  Also, if you want to use it for a lengthy period, it will be useful to add a keyboard to the tablet, so include that in the cost of the purchase.

Personally, I run the System47 screensaver.  I also have a lot of sound effects that I set for various events.  You can also set different mouse icons, but I've never cared for those.
