Third movie premise...

The Doomsday Machine.

Much like finding the right actor to pull Khan off, the key to this would be finding the right actor to play Commodore Decker. In my opinion, William Windom delivered the best one ep guest shot in the history of Trek. Part Ahab, part Captain Qeeg (instead of rolling ball-bearings he "rolled" info discs). Brilliant.

In order to get to know the cast better and further develop the characters put them under more stress. Just like in the original DMachine...Kirk commanding another ship (maybe a scarce few on the Constellation survive and resent Kirk), Spock thrown out of command (again) on the Enterprise and the crew is really salty over it (increasing loylaty to Spock and boosting his legend in the making profile), Bones being Bones and pretty pissed the whole time, Scotty having to fix everything (on both ships), Sulu and (add) Chekov taking the Enterprise into battle, no Lt. Palmer please...we get Uhura this time.

What would be a bit different? Decker survives (somehow - but we still get the signature shuttlecraft scene). Unlike killing off a character like Pike who really could've had his own movie or show, much like Windom...we keep him alive for future considerations or possible spin-offs if the character if played strongly enough. Of course decker would be indebted to help Kirk out of a future jam. The Doomsday Machine itself survives because the Constellation under Kirk's command discovers its true purpose.

Which leads me to the end of the 3rd movie and setup for the 4th. The Doomsday Machine was made by a race of beings to fight...The Borg. And at the end of the 3rd movie, Kirk turns to Spock and asks, "Spock, what the hell is a Borg?"

Cut to black...end credits roll.

Thoughts? Or is this just stupid? Thanks! Plus I reserve the right to correct any typographical or grammatical errors.

Worst mistake made in Trek movies: Star Trek VI...Capt. Sulu's 1st officer should've been Chekov. 2nd Worst: The Dominion War should've ended on the big screen with a 3 series combo.

That may not be sufficient mistreatment of a command structure for this timeline.

I am curious about the last part though.  Did you think of that part about the doomsday machine being made to fight the Borg or did you get that from a TNG novel?  I don't recall the title of it, but I read a TNG novel that had the doomsday machine discovered to be a Borgbuster.

I have to go back watch the episode about the doomsday machine. I think Kirk and the new crew need to have their own story not related to the original series. After all they are in an alternate reality where their missions could be very different. And they need to get away from Earth!! They haven't gone that far out yet. All the intense drama has been near or on earth. While on an exploratory mission they could meet up with an alien that no one has seen yet.  (although the Borg is a good idea or having Kirk ask Spock about the Borg at the end of a movie is a great cliffhanger idea and sets everyone up to expect another movie.). I was thinking of an alien so scary and so threatening that they have no idea how to deal with it (which could be the Borg or an alien similar to species8472). Bones could have his hands full trying to determine an effective treatment for the crews' unusual injuries due to battles with the new alien and perhaps not all survive which could be very trying for Bones whose desparate to find a cure.

So far, Kirk has been able to conquer his foes. He needs a an enemy that he cannot conquer so easily in just one movie. He needs something to cause him to still struggle because he's a new captain.   And so far his crew has been faithful and so good at following his orders (One exception being Scotty this last time around but that didn't last long). He has not had one serious troublemaker on his ship. What if there was a traitor onboard. How would this Kirk and crew flush out a traitor or a criminal hiding on his ship?

Also since this would be Star Trek's 50th anniversary, I think it would be neat for some familiar faces from past Star Trek shows to make cameo appearances. Perhaps as temporary officers on the Enterprise, medical personnnel or as captains, pilots, and passengers of other vessels needing to be rescued. Or as admirals who need to confer with Kirk about his mission and status updates. And not all of them need to be agreeble with Kirk and his crew. One of them could be a traitor hiding out on the Enterprise.

I would prefer to see something original rather than a TOS episode reboot as I was happy eith STID being a Wrath of Khan reboot combined with the death scene and Spock shouting Khaaannnn just screamed outrage and also thought the story was weak which has ut STID and also 2009 just above Star Trek V in my personal list of worst ST movies.

Also not another borg movie come on havent we got sick ofthem by now yes in TNG they were good and ENT they did a good episode with them and First contact IMO is the second best ST movie out. But Voyager killed my enjoyment of the Borg so would prefer not to see them in another film for a long time.

Give Kirk something unique to fight a enemy that we never saw in the prime universe. Don't use these new klingons as quite frankly they looked ridiculous compared to the prime klingons. Even better have Spock Prime find someway of going back into the prime universe and restore that for the new movie rather than JJverse

I never read TNG Vendetta. I'm not the biggest TNG fan out there.

Also who said the intro of the Borg into this timeline had to be treated the same way?

OK, The Doomsday Machine could've been constructed to fight the Founders. I think the element of a galaxy-wide conflict was largely under-represented on television.

I think either could be much more than a reboot if treated correctly.
