Why did the writers go the Trip/T'Pol route instead of the Archer/TPol?

In Enterprise, I think we see a fairly good answer to the question, "What if Spock had been female?"  Though, I'm inclined to think that a female Spock would have ended up with Kirk, the T'Pol/Tripp relationship shows us something of what a female Spock/McCoy pairing would have been like.

**Possible Spoiler for those that have not read the novels**

The Archer/Tpol relationship was more of respect and friendship rather than attraction. However the relationship between Trip/Tpol seemev to be more because of the neuropressure and how intimate that was rather than them being that attractive to each other.

Reading on the novels since the cancellation of Enterprise they have elaborated a little more with Trip and T'pols relationship and there dealing with not being with each other all the time. So it sounds more realistic in the novels rather than on the show which looked like it was just conveniant. Just a pity that Hoshi didnt find anyone as the only real relationhip we really seen her in was her MU counterpart being the captains woman

Trip&T'Pol romantic relationship is further explored in the new Enterprise novel and it was a deeper emotional relationship than doing Vulcan neroupressure thay had mutual feelings for each other..Hoshi has a relationship with a former Maco officer they're serving together on T'Pol's ship the U'S.S. Endeavour.

I think that T'pol's emotioanl life came into being (or began to be recognized by her) after the episode where she comes in contact with Trillium which degraded her nural cortex. So, T'pol was not human. I believed that the producers and writers wanted to reimagine Vulcans, consider the forge & the episode that followed it. Many of the Vulcans expressed emotions and some admitted that Vulcans had emotions, that they surpressed. Spok, and all the other Vulcans in ST, come after T'pol. Vulcans after her time are more 'advanced,' more 'civilized.' They do a 'better' job of controlling their emotions, even though they still have emotions. See for example (one of my 2 fav TOS episode) "All our yesterdays".

In my reasoning, I always thought that Trip and T'pol had more chemistry, whereas T'pol seemed more aggravated at times with Archer. But also keep in mind, I have only seen the first season.

>Next?"

>Well, we've seen romances between the Captain and subordinates before, kinda like Picard and Lt. Com. Daren.  And romance between commanding officers (not just the commander) is also seen as problematic in the military...

>So I don't see how your comments supports anything but an unconsummated love rather than the realized one that occured.

What?

Archer and T'Pol are in the same chain of command. That's the difference.

When you waytch the other seasons you see her thaw a lot with Archer but like all officers they keep it stictly on a professional level except in one episode in season 3. But in that episode it is more like a obligation to repay archer rather than a relationship as such

Right, I think the episode is "Twilight." I watched it last night. It was better than I remembered.

Archer and T'Pol relationship was based on a certain grudging respect building into loyalty, trust and familial affection. They had been forced into akward physical contact a couple of times, and Archer had at least one erotic dream about T'Pol.  The episode ENT 060 - Twilight showcased a nurturing and respectful relationship.

Archer was a reserved and careful leader, and fairly set in his ways. Trip was a cocky, brash and irreverent man, exploring his limitations and possibilities. He was the catalyst for T'Pol to shake off her repressed and cautious nature and discover her need to explore.

Trek avoided there captains getting into relationships ...  they wanted there captains first love to be there ship. Besides if there ever was going to be a captain having a relationship ..it would have been janeway and chakotay..and that never happened.
