I'm just curious as to why this forward thinking franchise, ardently, insists on holding on to the past?

Can you be a little more specific?

So, five-card stud, nothing wild. And the sky's the limit....

Agreed! STAR TREK (2009) promised a reimagined TOS
like none of us had ever expected, making a start, again.
It was a little T00 close to the original, to MY shock and surprise!
In FACT, the adherence to formula and tradition almost put me off ...

But it has charm ... and to spare. Then the sequel remakes another
sequel in this franchise, which was not at all what I was hoping for.
What a surprise THAT turned out to be! Winning over fans and critics,
making another killing at the box office ... As wonderful as the reboot
is, I personally was hoping that it would've gone much further and been
much more bold in its deviation from the past. But that's just me ...

Forward thinking ? they're not thinking at all..To make a long story short, JJ abrams gave us Star Trek for Idiots, no story, no purpose, just loud silliness,if you've got the attention span of a rock then this movie is for you.

Greatness comes to those who really want to do anything to get it.

What gets me is that you, the fans,
rejected ENTERPRISE, pretty much ...
and CBS got BURNED, because of it!
And now, there is all this talk about
the NEXT series, like it's a foregone
conclusion! I completely understand
CBS being retiscent to shell out the
big bucks for a proper STAR TREK series,
when their bottom line was affected by
trying to give the fans something new.

I can respect people liking them new movies, if their demeanor is like 2takesfrakes, then I can live with it. Anyway I also stated something similiar that if one really liked them, them one must have the attention span of a rock.

But 2 takesfrakes, you make a very good point. CBS was very muhc critized for ENTERPRISE, which was in my opinion totally unjustified. I loved the series and still do. I think that Enterprise not only filled a lot of gaps, but it also transcendet the feeling to be first ones out there to a very good level. I remember that with the first episodes I had the feeling of being part of the crew, exploring those mysteries we so often heard about but would now see with our own eyes.

I have heard and read so many discussions, Kirk or Picard, DS9 or Voyager, the Enterprise NX01 was never mentionded before ... and so on, but those endless quarrels between fans and fans were always out of my range of interest. So now I have been called a purist because I don´t like the new movies. Well, they simply don´t fit. They stand beyond everything Star Trek was before that and they can not be part of the universe I hold so dear. Before that every movie and every series brought seomething very special to the feast, thus making it a great show of great diversity. Now we are being served chum. Cut up fish pieces swimming in their own blood. You might get your kick out of watching it, it might even raise your levels of dopamin, but it still remains chum.
