I think the person in the cryotube they opened might be Dr Arik Soong.

1 - Arik Soong was a brilliant doctor of genetics in the 22nd century. He believed that Humanity's abandonment of genetic engineering after the Eugenics Wars was a mistake, and hoped to show that genetically engineered Humans would not necessarily become tyrants like Khan Noonien Singh. He argued that the source of the problem wasn't, in fact, the technology, but Humanity's own inability to use it wisely.

2 - In the original series there were a total of 72 survivers in cryotubes including Khan. In the move there is a total of 73 cryotubes. Khan plus the other 72. There is an extra cryotube.

3 - Brent Spiner desperately wanted to be in Star Trek XII

I think Arik Soong may have somehow added himself to the group in cryostasis and we will see him in a future movie. You heard it here first.

If that is indeed their plan, I applaud their attention to detail and hope that Spinner can come back in the role of Soong. Personally, I think the idea of the Augments is something that is under used, partially due to budget restrictions and partially due to lack of creativity. Sometimes I think they fear creating a "Superman" parody when the potential for a villain, of Khan's caliber but more sinister, comes to remake humanity.

I hope you're right

Another possibility is that the Soongs are descended from one of Khan's crew. This would explain Arik Soong's interest in the Augments and the Soong's genius.

thanks for proving me right.

when Scotty makes that report, khan is already in the Enterprise sick bay

heres a direct quote from the episode.

Captain's log, supplemental. Alongside the SS Botany Bay for ten hours now. A boarding party of engineering and medical specialists are now completing their examination of the mysterious vessel. Attempts to revive other sleepers await our success or failure with the casualty already beamed over. Doctor McCoy is frankly amazed at his physical and recuperative power.

[ENTERPRISE Bridge]

KIRK: Kirk to boarding party.
SCOTT; Scott here.
KIRK: Scotty, any records, log books of any kind?

SCOTT: Negative, Captain. It appears they were in suspended animation when the ship took off.

KIRK: How many alive?
SCOTT : Twelve units have malfunctioned, leaving seventy two stilloperating. Thirty of those are women.

and this part is from when Kirk and Khan speak in sick baywhen Scotty makes that report, khan is already in the Enterprise sick bay again, a direct quote from the episode

Enterprise sickbay

KHAN: I have a few questions first. What is your heading?
KIRK: Our heading is Starbase Twelve, a planet in the Gamma 400 star system. Our command base in this sector. Is that of any use to you?
KHAN: And my people?
KIRK: Seventy two of your life-support canisters are still functioning.
